    Overview:

This game has all the makings of a TNF classic, but there are a ton of marbles still in the air.  We’ve got two of the most dynamic passing offenses in the NFL as Carson Wentz has gone over 300 passing yards in two of his last three games.   For Justin Herbert, 300 yards is an average game as he just dropped 400 vs. IND last week.  This game has enough fantasy WRs to roster two teams and that’s what is going to define this game.  Both teams are top-10 vs. the pass, but it might be more of a mirage as both pass defenses got lit up last week.  This game will come down to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison making plays vs. Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey, so a shootout feels almost inevitable.  Over their last three games, the Chargers rank dead-last in the NFL in yards per play allowed. Last week, Charger running backs combined for only 23 rushing yards on 10 carries. The Minnesota Vikings defense has blitzed at the 2nd highest rate in the NFL and Herbert has thrived against the blitz with the 4th best passing grade this season (83.9) and last season (87.4).   Hopefully, LA gets Joe Alt back to bolster the line, but Herbert is going to be under siege all night and while they might get to him a couple of times, expect him to get the better of the matchup.

    Quarterbacks:

Justin Herbert was the QB2 last week and while he’s slinging the ball like he was as a rookie, he’s also making more mistakes.  He’s got twice as many INTs as he did last season, but that’s just a background detail as he’s got the best WR trio in the league and a TE who might be bound for stardom. The only fear in this game is whether his 0-line can hold up.  Herbert was pressured on 57% of his drop-backs and was hit 15 times.  The matchup with Minnesota presents challenges as the Vikings rank sixth-fewest points per game to opposing quarterbacks, but I still think that number is a mirage and Jalen Hurts opened up the offense vs. them last week.  I think Herbert could have his best week of the season in a shootout as long as Alt returns and the o-line holds up its end of the bargain.  Carson Wentz went for all the yards last week, but they were all empty as he has no TDs and two INTs.  Indianapolis dropped 38 on the Chargers in just three quarters, so MIN should be able to push the ball downfield at will.  I love this game for both QBs and as long as the MIN WRs can finish the explosive plays, Wentz has a solid chance at his second top-10 finish.

    Running Backs:

Aaron Jones is able to return from the short-term IR, which cuts into Jordan Mason.  It’s still too early to tell if he’s back and even if he is, Mason will still get plenty of work while Jones should take the passing downs.  Mason has scored in b2b weeks, but the explosive runs aren’t there as has only averaged more than 4.0 YPC once in the last four games.  The Chargers defense is a mess and Jonathan Taylor just scored three TDs in half a game, so Mason is a near must-start even with Jones back.  I wouldn’t start Jones even if he’s playing as we have no idea how many snaps he will see.  The Chargers situation is also messy as Hassan Haskins is out and Kimani Vidal has one great game and one stinker.  Vidal does project as a solid play tonight as he will be involved whether the Chargers are up or down.  Last week was an aberration and I don’t see LA getting blown out for the second time in under a week. The Vikings have been a run-funnel this season, but that won’t matter as Harbaugh is going to lean on Herbert and the run game is taking a backseat.
