Michael Penix Jr. – Falcons – Leg
Penix suffered a bone bruise in his leg during the Falcons’ loss to the 49ers on Sunday night. The injury is not considered serious and he is expected to play in Week 8 when the Falcons face the Dolphins. Whoever the Falcons end up starting at quarterback this week, whether it be Penix or Kirk Cousins will be a must start due to a favorable matchup against a Dolphins defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in almost every major statistical category.
Jayden Daniels – Commanders – Hamstring
Daniels suffered a hamstring injury in the Commanders’ loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. He left the game early and did not return but his status for Week 8 is unknown. The injury is not considered serious and the team has said they will update his status later on in the week. Hamstrings are tricky and they usually do involve missing time. If he is unable to go Marcus Mariota will again take over starting quarterback duties but it may not be a great week to start him as the Commanders travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs and a defense that is starting to heat up. It may be best to look on the waiver wire for someone else.
Bryce Young – Panthers – Ankle
Young suffered a high ankle sprain in the Panthers’ win over the Jets on Sunday and is expected to miss some time. The Panthers are scouring the trade market for quarterback help but in the meantime it does mean Andy Dalton will start. High ankle sprains usually do take a few weeks to heal but Dalton gets a favorable matchup on Sunday and could be a sneaky good stream as the Panthers face the Bills.
Lamar Jackson – Ravens – Hamstring
Jackson was expected to return to action for the Ravens after their bye week here in Week 8 but he was not present at their first post bye practice. Cooper Rush could be in line to make another start and as of right now with the Ravens struggling on both sides of the ball and a matchup with an improving Bears’ defense, it would also be best to look on the waiver wire if you already don’t have a second quarterback option available.
Kendre Miller – Saints – Knee
Miller suffered a torn ACL in the Saints’ loss to the Bears on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season. Rookie Devin Neal takes over as the second running back behind Alvin Kamara but he only saw one carry on Sunday. So long as Kamara plays, it will be hard to see value for anything other than a stash for Neal.
Mike Evans – Buccaneers – Collarbone
In his first half back after missing three games with a hamstring injury, Mike Evans suffered a fractured collarbone trying to make a catch on a deep pass. Head coach Todd Bowles announced Evans would miss most of the rest of the season leaving fantasy managers maybe a chance to get him back for the playoffs. In Evans’ absence, Emeka Egbuka will take over top wide receiver duties for the Bucs. After that it’s a host of options at wide receiver due to the uncertainty surrounding the returns of Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan. Rookie Tez Johnson has emerged in the last couple of weeks, going for at least 50 yards and a touchdown in consecutive games. Cade Otton will also see an increased role and could be a good waiver add as he’s only rostered in 32% of Sleeper leagues.
Nico Collins – Texans – Head
Nico Collins suffered a concussion in the Texans’ loss to the Seahawks on Monday night and will now have to go through the league’s protocol. The Texans playing on a short week automatically puts at least some doubt into his status for their game with the 49ers on Sunday. If he can’t go, look to see an increased role for Dalton Schultz as well as rookie Jaylin Noel, who was tied for second on the team in targets last night with Schultz. Xavier Hutchinson and Jayden Higgins could also emerge as options but Schultz and Noel got the early touches sans Collins.
Darren Waller – Dolphins – Chest
Waller suffered a strained pectoral in the Dolphins’ loss to the Browns on Sunday and is considered week to week. He has shown a lot of upside this year going for at least eight fantasy points in three of his first four games until Sunday’s injury. With no real viable option at tight end on the Dolphins’ depth chart, it would be best to look on the waiver wire for someone like Dalton Schultz, Orande Gadsden, or Jonnu Smith.
