Week 6 Injury Report

  • It was an absolutely nasty week for injuries around the NFL. We had a lot of players leave games and not return due to injury, we had some players get hurt and return as well. We also do have some players who are getting close to returning as well, so let’s dive into it.

Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson – Hip, Oblique

Richardson is expected to start in Week 7 against the Dolphins. The Dolphins do have a tough defense but given the struggles of their offense without Tua Tagovailoa, he is still very much a startable fantasy option.

Giants Running Back Devin Singletary – Groin

Singletary missed his second consecutive game on Sunday night due to his groin injury and his replacement Tyrone Tracy Jr. did not disappoint putting up another sound fantasy effort. Singletary did log three limited practices last week, which indicates he’s at least close to returning, however with Tracy’s emergence his fantasy value has taken a hit. If he’s able to go he’s a low end RB2 or a Flex play only and Tracy’s play could cut into that value even more. If Tracy is still available he is now a priority add off the wire.

Vikings Running Back Aaron Jones – Hip

Jones left the Vikings’ Week 5 game in the first quarter after landing hard on his hip and did not return. He got the Week 6 bye to heal up and as of Tuesday was spotted on the practice field getting some work in, boding well for his chances to take the field in Week 7 as the Vikings prepare for a huge divisional showdown with the Lions. If he can go, he should be started as an RB2 but if not, Ty Chandler is a more than viable option to take on the same duties.

Dolphins Running Back De’Von Achane – Head

Achane was another beneficiary of the Week 6 bye as he got a week to heal up from his concussion. He was spotted at practice on Monday in a red non contact jersey meaning he’s getting closer to fully clearing the league’s concussion protocol. If he’s able to go this would be the first time all year he enters back into his timeshare with Raheem Mostert. However, with how high Achane was drafted and most of the depth running backs scooped up, he would be a must start as an RB2 this weekend.

Rams Wide Receiver Cooper Kupp – Ankle

Kupp has been missing for the last three and a half weeks since he left part way through Week 2 with the high ankle sprain. The Rams will be on a bye for Week 6, but for Week 7, they are expected to have their star wideout back when they take on the Raiders at home. Kupp will slide right back into WR1 status and be a must start in all formats.

Giants Wide Receiver Malik Nabers – Concussion

Nabers has now missed back to back games due to a concussion and after a couple weeks away he would be a welcome sight for fantasy managers to return to the lineup in Week 7 against the rival Eagles. Concussions are the trickiest injuries to monitor with no linear recovery and the league’s strict concussion protocol. Should he miss another game, Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton will see increased fantasy values for the Giants this weekend against an Eagles secondary that is susceptible to giving up big days to wide receivers and can be started as a WR2 or Flex.

Bills Running Back James Cook – Toe

Bad news is Cook missed Monday night’s game with a toe injury. The worse news is that his backup Ray Davis had himself a game, racking up over 150 scrimmage yards on 21 touches (18 carries, 3 catches) with turf toe normally being a 1-3 week ordeal, Davis is a priority add especially for Cook owners right now.

49ers Running Back Jordan Mason – Shoulder

Mason sprained his shoulder on Thursday night in Seattle. He returned to the game for a play before being sidelined for the night. He practiced on Monday in a non contact jersey so his status for Sunday against the Chiefs remains to be seen. If he can’t go Isaac Guerendo will likely take over the starting running back duties. The rookie 4th round pick has shown incremental improvement each week but against a stingy Kansas City defense, it would be best to put him in as a Flex play only if needed.

Jaguars Running Back Travis Etienne – Hamstring

The Jaguars star running back is considered week to week for his hamstring injury, which means he too will likely miss Sunday’s overseas contest with the Patriots. If he can’t go, Tank Bigsby would take on top running back duties with D’Ernest Johnson backing him up. Bigsby would be the go to here if available as a game with the Patriots would likely present a favorable game script, but Johnson will at least see some third down work and some touches too but should again, only be picked up and used if desperate.

Browns Running Back Jerome Ford – Hamstring

Ford injured his hamstring on Sunday against the Eagles and is also considered week to week. However, this is different in the fact his status as a starting running back is going to be gone as the Browns are expected to welcome Nick Chubb back into the fold on Sunday for the first time. Chubb will immediately slot in as an RB2 and if Ford can’t go, don’t be afraid to pick up D’Onta Foreman or Pierre Strong as Chubb will likely not get the full workload he’s used to seeing in his first game back after a serious injury.

Titans Running Back Tyjae Spears – Hamstring

Spears strained his hamstring on Sunday against the Colts and is considered week to week. Unfortunately he was already in a timeshare with Tony Pollard and he is unlikely to be available on waivers. It’s time to scramble for Ray Davis, Tyler Johnson, or Isaac Guerendo if you need.

Panthers Running Back Jonathon Brooks – Knee

The Panthers will open up the 21 day practice window for the rookie running back coming off a torn ACL. There has been a lot of excitement around Brooks but it remains to be seen when he will be activated for a game. For now, hang on to Chuba Hubbard until it’s time for Brooks to suit up for a game, so for now, keep Brooks stashed but Hubbard will retain RB2/Flex value.

Jets Wide Receiver Davante Adams – Hamstring

Yes, I said Jets wide receiver Davante Adams after gang green made the move for him early Tuesday morning. He has missed the Raiders’ last three games with the hamstring issue plus there was probably erring on the side of caution to preserve his trade value. He is in a good place though and is trending well to play soon whether it be this weekend or next. Reuniting with Aaron Rodgers vaults him right back to WR1 value, while knocking down Garrett Wilson’s to WR2. Allen Lazard could still be a benefactor here and he will still maintain Flex value moving forward.

Saints Wide Receiver Chris Olave – Concussion

Olave was hurt in the first quarter after taking a hit to the head that resulted in a lost fumble. He is currently in the concussion protocol and with the Saints hosting the Broncos on Thursday night, it seems very unlikely he’s going to play. While Rashid Shaheed would be the logical replacement for the Saints, he is also banged up and dealing with an injury that we will get into next.

Saints Wide Receiver Rashid Shaheed – Knee

As mentioned, Chris Olave’s counterpart is also dealing with an injury to his knee that is considered worrisome. He has not practiced each of the last two days and is trending towards missing Thursday’s game with the Broncos as well. If Shaheed and Olave were to both miss, and the Saints are already out Derek Carr…there is not much fantasy value available to this group at the moment. Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau could see a spike in usage but outside you’re looking at Bub Means, Mason Tipton, and Cedrick Wilson Jr. who are only to be used in case of emergency.

Cardinals Wide Receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. – Concussion

The rookie wideout is officially in concussion protocol as he had to be helped off the field Sunday after taking a nasty hit to the head. The Cardinals have an extended week with a Monday night game so there is a chance he could play, but judging by the look of the hit he took and a long and bright future ahead, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cardinals play it safe with him and hold him out for a week. If so, Greg Dortch and Michael Wilson are likely available off the waiver wire and would be worth picking up and starting as Flexes if needed.

Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks – Shoulder

Wicks sprained his shoulder on Sunday after a 9 yard catch and is considered day to day. Of all the Packers’ pass catchers, Wicks has the most fantasy volatility. His stock went up a week ago with Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs both out, however both came back this week and his value took a hit. He is worth stashing in case of injury to anyone in the Packers receiver room, but as long as those players are able to play, he holds very little fantasy value and if you need a wideout, looking on the waiver wire might be the best option.

49ers Wide Receiver Ricky Pearsall – Chest

The 49ers opened the 21 day practice window for the rookie receiver and he practiced on Monday as the 49ers returned to work after a long weekend. It remains to be seen if they will activate him Sunday against the Chiefs but if so, he is a great stash candidate. The 49ers spread the ball around a lot, they also have skill players who are constantly banged up so there could be opportunities that arise for him.

Eagles Tight End Dallas Goedert – Hamstring

Goedert left Sunday’s game against the Browns with a hamstring injury and did not return. This isn’t the first hamstring injury this offense has dealt with as the same issue cost A.J. Brown four games. If Goedert can’t go, and the odds are probably good that he will not be able to, Grant Calcaterra will take his place in the starting lineup. However, Brown and Devonta Smith back, Calcaterra likely will hold minimal if any fantasy value and you’re best served looking on the waiver wire for a new tight end.

Vikings Tight End TJ Hockenson – Knee

The star tight end returned to practice late last week and is still tracking to play in Week 7 when the Vikings return from their bye. A very popular draft and stash, he likely will not be available on most waiver wires but in the event he is, he is a priority add. He instantly becomes a TE1 and a must start upon return as he will provide another fantastic option for Sam Darnold.
