Every week I will do a quick drive thru of the all the games and cover the relevant fantasy points. I will look at things that might be fluky or here to stay and try and point everyone in the right direction for the future. We never want to overreact to a small-sample size, but sometimes getting in too early is still better than missing the boat entirely.
Niners 26 – Rams – 23
The only reason the Niners won this game is because they had no chance. They were down their down starting QB, TE and two WRs. Mac Jones continued his resurgence and is a legit viable starting QB and could be playing for another team this season. Imagine him on CIN? Jones probably goes back to the bench with Brock Purdy returning, but this team somehow keeps chugging along. Christian McCaffrey (22/57/0) can’t seem to get going on the ground and still doesn’t have a rushing TD. He’s essentially a WR1 along with being a RB2, so the value is through the roof. The big story was Kendrick Bourne going for 142 yard and 10 grabs and he’s a legit wire stud assuming Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall miss another game. The Niners will be healthy soon and then Jake Tonges who hauled in 7 receptions for 41 receiving yards in Week 5 will become an afterthought, but this team has been a wire goldmine through five weeks. Matthew Stafford (389/3/0) was insane and this was a massive L for me as I was fading the Rams hard this summer. Stafford is a great fantasy start with the way the Rams are airing it out and especially with Puka Nacua, who went for (10/85/1). Davante Adams (5/88/0) remains elite, but I promise this won’t last all season. The Rams look like one of the best teams in the NFL, but they have insane injury luck compared to the Niners. Kyren Williams (14/65/0) lost a big fumble, but he was still instrumental in fantasy. He averaged 4.6 YPC while catching eight balls for 66 yards and 2 TDs, totaling 131 yards on 22 total touches
Pickup of the game: WR -Kendrick Bourne – Priority Low as there’s a clock on his value
Vikings 21 – Browns – 17
This was a defensive battle as it wasn’t shocking both teams leaned on their stars. Justin Jefferson was a beast with (7/123/0) while Jordan Addison took a while to get on the field, but when he did, it saved the game (95/41/1). Jordan Mason (13/52/1) was an okay start in Week 5; he didn’t amaze, but was able to find a TD on the ground. Mason will be great in the future, but the MIN o-line isn’t quite as formidable as it was a couple weeks ago. Carson Wentz was solid again despite heading to the locker room, but he still went 236 passing yards and a TD. The weapons are all set up for Wentz to succeed, but this might be the worst matchup of the season. JJ McCarthy can return soon, so who knows who will be QB1. It should be Wentz. The Browns are a one-man band and the lead singer is Quinshon Judkins. He’s insane and the best rookie RB, period. He had 110 yards on 23 attempts, but had a 50-yard TD called back due to penalty. Judkins is a buy-high and he’s primed to go nuclear this season once the schedule finally eases up. David Njoku led the way with a TD + 67 receiving yards on six catches behind nine targets while Harold Fannin had four receptions for just 13 yards with one TD. Both TEs are going off, but it’s hard to trust any pass-catchers on CLE while Dillon Gabriel is under center. The rookie was solid with two passing TDs, but this team is going to run the ball for the rest of the season.
Pickup of the game – none
Texans 44 – Ravens 10
C.J. Stroud (244/4/0) put out a good start vs. an atrocious Ravens defense, but who won’t do that vs. BAL. The four TDs are amazing, but they were wasted on Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson. At least Nico Collins got in the end zone, but he only had four grabs for 52 yards. He isn’t the same guy from last season. Christian Kirk led the Texans with 64 receiving yards and he’s a solid flex play after the bye week. Woody Marks fell back to Earth with only seven rushes 24 yards and it was Nick Chubb who got going 11 for 61 and a TD. Dalton Schultz also was solid with five for 60, but this was a dream matchup. Schultz is a solid play if you are missing Brock Bowers or George Kittle. I don’t know what to do with the HOU backfield. Cooper Rush was not as advertised as he had three INTs and no TDs. Derrick Henry continued to spiral, but at least he scored. Zay Flowers (5/72/0) was able to offer production, but there wasn’t much else to offer in this offense. Mark Andrews continued to suck minus the one good week and the return of Isaiah Likely spell his doom. I wouldn’t play either TE right now, but stashing Likely is the move.
Pickup of the game – TE – Isaiah Likely – Priority Med if you can afford to stash
Colts 40 – Raiders 6
Geno Smith (228/0/2) looked really bad this week and I would be shocked if he’s starting next game. He’s thrown for more INTs than TD and it’s not even close. The whole reason to play him in fantasy is because of Brock Bowers, so without that, he’s just another bad QB. Ashton Jeanty (14/67/0) got game-scripted out as IND scored 20 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Tre Tucker got going with four for 62 and I think he’s trustworthy week to week. The Colts might be the most explosive offense in the league that no one saw coming. Well, almost no one. I’m all-in on the Colts and have been all summer. Daniel Jones (212/2/0) continues to roll over anything in his way and he only had two rushing yards. This game got out of control so even Jonathan Taylor only had 17 carries, despite three TDs. Michael Pittman (5/39/1) and Tyler Warren (4/44/1) were great as usual and they can be relied on every week. Josh Downs was solid with six for 54, but it’s Pittman and Warren no matter what. I even put Warren in a flex spot this week.
Pickup of the game – None
Broncos 21 -Eagles 17 Set featured image
Bo Nix (242/1/0) doesn’t look good and while he peaked in the second half last season, this team just doesn’t tailor to him being a fantasy beast again. J.K. Dobbins (20/79/1) remains valuable in fantasy as the Broncos lean on him to produce and RJ Harvey is a distant RB2 with only four carries. Courtland Sutton is heating up with eight grabs for 99 yards, but he’s the only pass-catcher worth rostering. DEN is a great team, but not a great fantasy team. Jalen Hurts (280/2/0) had a great day in fantasy despite the loss for the Eagles and he’s the rare fantasy player where if his team loses, it’s better for his fantasy day. Saquon Barkley continues to be mediocre and only had six carries for 30 yards, but he he did add three receptions for 58 yards and a TD. Devonta Smith went off in a tough matchup and dropped 114 yards on eight receptions. The Eagles looked great here, but two of the next three games are vs. the Giants, so expect more of a running game than a passing one.
Pickup of the game – RB – Will Shipley Priority Med, but high is Barkley is actually hurt
Saints 26 – Giants 14
Spencer Rattler finally won a game and went for (225/1/0). The Saints are a mess, but they are somewhat competent for fantasy. Kendre Miller led the Saints in carries with 10, providing 41 rush yards. Alvin Kamara went for 27 yards on eight carries and Miller is actually the RB you want to roster over the next stretch. Rashid Shaheed went for 114 and a TD and he’s ultimate boom or bust while Chris Olave led the team in targets and receptions. Both are solid options as NO is going to have to pass in most games to keep up. The Giants couldn’t help themselves and had five TOs, as Jaxson Dart had two INTs and a fumble while Cam Skattebo also fumbled. With no Malik Nabers, no one really stepped up and it was Skattebo and Theo Johnson who led the team in receptions. Theo Johnson had two TDs, so he’s worth a flier. Skattebo is the RB1 on the Giants and his ability to rack up fantasy points in the air as well as the ground makes him hyper-valuable. Dart ran for 55 yards along with the two passing TDs, so he’s a borderline QB1 each week.
Pickup of the game – TE Theo Johnson – Priority Low unless you need a TE
