I'm in a full rebuild and have been offered Okongwu and Jalen Williams for Sengun. Seems like a solid offer; by the time I'm competing, Okongwu is likely to have a starting role.

Do I take it? Ask for more?

The deeper the league, the more I like the OO side. Personally I don't know how much we should trust Sengun to be a featured big for 30+mpg every night, and that's what you'd need to be confident in to pass on OO and Jalen

Hot take: Jalen might end up the best 9-cat player of the group via the Mikal Bridges/Gordon Hayward statset, but he's also on OKC where his role could get cut by 15mpg as early as next year

I've got a follow up, I'm considering a new offer of Sengun + Kuminga for OO + Williams + Ivey. Still think it is worth taking?

@blake-ostrow if you mean that you're adding Kuminga to the deal to get Ivey, yes I think that would be worth it for sure

Yup, that's what I'm considering. Kuminga is young, but I'm not fully bought in to him becoming a star.

Apologies for making this such a specific question.

My trade partner rejected the Kuminga exchange. Worth trying to salvage something by offering Sengun + Walker Kessler for the Williams/OO/Ivey return? Should I just stand pat instead.

I didn't even want to move Sengun, but now I've got this brain bug about the trade.

@blake-ostrow I would much prefer to move Kessler than Kuminga, especially if it means getting Ivey. I'd have Ivey and Sengun close in terms of dynasty rank, with Ivey having way more upside in both talent and role security. Even OO might have more long-term dependability than Sengun because he can be great on both sides of the floor. And I believe I already mentioned that I think Jalen will be a great 9-cat player, versatile on both sides of the ball, which should lock him into 30mpg no matter who is around him.

Both Sengun and Kessler are pure Cs that will require a certain team/scheme to be able to hang defensively, and I just don't like gambling on those guys when neither of their teams have locked them into their core...either team gets Wemby or whatever big name in 2024, are we confident Utah or Houston is invested enough in Kessler or Sengun to factor them into the team building? Because I'm absolutely no.

Maybe OO doesn't have that kind of investment either, but at least with Ivey and Jalen you have two players who can play a variety of positions/roles, one of which is already showing flashes of being an elite offensive player with all the tools in the world and the investment of being taken 5th overall. I'm betting on that guy even if the 9-cat value might say differently in the short term. (sorry for the wall of text, got more into the philosophy than I expected lol)

Please don't apologize for the length of your reply, this is great analysis and it goes a long way to helping me make my decision.

Dynasty trades are a lot more difficult to weigh up IMO because the unknowable are so much greater compared to a redraft trade. Which is to say, I appreciate all the details you provided in your response.
