Where would you rank KD in a keeper league?

14 team 9-cat keeper.

I made a foolish mistake last season to trade KAT (1st) for KD (1st) and Jonathan Isaac (11th). We keep players by the round they were drafted, so I've been trying to figure out whether or not to hold onto KD or gamble on a new 1st round pick where it's possible no actual 1st rounders will be available depending on who the other teams keep. I have an IR slot I could stash him in.

The rest of my keepers will most likely be:

Jaren Jackson Jr. (2nd)
Rudy Gobert (3rd)
Khris Middleton (5th)
Kyle Kuzma (6th)
Mitchell Robinson (7th)
Michael Porter Jr (8th)
Jonathan Isaac (11th)
Josh Richardson (12th)

I would be dropping MPJ if I keep KD, which I'd obviously be fine with though I still think he'll be a great player. So the question is more, is KD worth hanging onto as a 1st round pick?

For what it's worth, I've done fairly well in this league, so I'm in win-now mode despite having a pretty solid young core.

Who came last last season, and who is their first rounder?

Would it be an option to trade KD and your first round pick to someone who isnt in win now mode?

Based on how keepers seem to work, I'm thinking you may need to keep him. Who will be the best player in the draft? Something like the 35th overall ranked guy?

I say keep KD! It's worth the risk. You could have a top 3 player in the league from 2021-2024 or something in that neighborhood.

A quick update on this, the draft order doc was just made and it looks like these are the first round picks before my turn in the draft:

DeAndre Ayton
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Kyrie Irving
Demarcus Cousins
Karl Anthony Towns
Kawhi Leonard
Damian Lillard
James Harden
Russell Westbrook
Anthony Davis
Stephen Curry

Out of those guys, I don't really see any other teams dropping their first round picks other than DeMarcus Cousins, which means I could potentially have the second pick in the draft.

So my thinking is if I don't keep KD as my keeper, I will either lose him to the person who picks first or I could potentially just pick him back up again if I don't see anybody I like more. So now I'm leaning towards dropping him. Zion seems like he could fit my build well (I realize he won't be a first rounder this season but neither will KD obviously). Thoughts?

Also, if I stick with that plan, my slightly revised keepers would be:

Jaren Jackson Jr. (2nd)
Rudy Gobert (3rd)
Khris Middleton (5th)
Kyle Kuzma (6th)
Mitchell Robinson (7th)
Jonathan Isaac (11th)
Josh Richardson (12th)
Delon Wright (15th)

Or I could take MPJ instead of Kuz...

The risk is that you get Zion, lose out on KD and wind up the next 2 seasons with no first round pick.

You're effectively betting your 2020-23 stakes in (top 5?) KD on Zion being a first rounder in his 2nd year. Noone else in your squad will make that leap.

With Gobert, MitchRob and Zion you're really pushing into punt FT territory without someone like LD to drag you back up too. Is it a H2H league where you can accept this?

How many other more picks are there likely to be in the top 3 rounds? If you're throwing KD out there i would consider risking a full rebuild and throwing Gobert out too in the hopes you can get Zion round 1 and pick up your KD share again in round 3?

Gobert might also work as a nice Lure to The Demarcus team to draw him away from Zion.

Couple quick thoughts:
Don't lose KD no matter what.
MPJ is a bust. Time to give up on him. He will hardly see the floor in Denver.
How's that for taking a stand. 🙂

All right, I finally have to set my keeper picks today. One last question.

I've enjoyed Kuz for his points and threes on my team and he's definitely helped me out in the past but I'm worried about his role this season. Based on my other keepers I could definitely use the help in points and threes though. I'll also be weak in assists which is why I've been going back and forth with which one of these guys I should keep.

Would you rather keep Kuz as a 6th round pick, Dinwiddie as a 14th round pick, or Tyus Jones as a 15th round pick?

Currently leaning towards Dinwiddie for the assists but I haven't heard any updates from training camp about him yet.

Thanks!

Very tough between Kuz & Dinwiddie considering the rounds. That is a true coin flip!

So I ended up dropping KD hoping to get Kawhi with the third pick... and ended up picking up KD again.

Really didn’t want to not have my first round pick active all year, but hey, it’s basically like I had nine keepers! ...or something like that.
