I'm in several leagues where the commissioners seem to believe that auction leagues are far superior to any and all other forms (these are all H2H, 9Cat, 12team).

Agree/disagree? I personally prefer a standard draft format simply because the draft itself has more of a predictable rhythm. They also go much quicker.

That aside, IF participating in an auction and I'm looking to spend heavily on my first 2-3 picks - which 2/3 first and second round guys would you want to put together to build a core? I ask because it seems to be a strategy that works more often than not - 2/3 leagues I was in last year were won by teams with 2 1st rounders (like an AD + GA pairing for example). I've done a few mocks and there are a decent amount of good players going on the cheap, so I do think this could be a winning formula where you spend roughly $120-$140ish on your first two picks.

Nothing shows mastery of both player value and gamesmanship than an auction draft. It eliminates the luck factor from the drafting equation by giving everyone a fair shot at owning any player in the league. It is the purest form of team building and construction.

Predictability of standard drafts is for amateurs. It's easy to make decisions when you have only a handful of choices found within a value range.

But yes, they take much longer, however, it's worth the time. Every last minute.

The amount you choose to budget is contingent on league depth as that determines the amount of $ in the market.

I've been playing auction league for few years now and I have to say I like it much better than standard snake draft

I would be so frustrated to begin the standard draft with low pick, but now it's essentially my choice of what players I want to pay for and I have budget it
it does lend more fun of planning out strategy and you kinda have to know who you are bidding against
and there's always some kind of bargain at the end of draft bc every year everyone overspends to a degree and there are bargains to be had at the end when no one has much money
I picked up smoking joe for $1 for example, last year
so it keeps you interested til the end
and if you end up having a bad draft, you can't blame anyone but yourself.
no luck factor.

I don't play in standard draft league much anymore.

go try it out if you haven't already.
