Hey Hoop Ball!

My league just announced the draft order and I have pick 10 and 15 in the first 2 rounds! My only choice is to be excited about this draft slot. Please rank the players below. I think these guy will be available for me to scoop up.

Lillard (wishful thinking)

Trae

Kawhi

Lebron

Booker

KD

Tatum

Beal

PG-13

Embiid

Cheers!

I will take a crack at this.

Avoid Embiid and PG-13 this early.  Rest and injury.

Take Lillard, Tatum, Trae, Booker, Kawhi (rest and health concerns).  I doubt you have a much of a chance at Lillard.  I wouldn't argue with any order between the other four.

I am avoiding KD unless he slips to round 3 or I see really good signs in pre-season.  To much risk for me this season.  Rest and injury.  But tempting.

Beal.

I'd probably skip LaBron also because I think he will be getting way to much rest this year, especially the first month or more.  But he would be last here, except for Embiid and PG-13.

Also give some consideration to Collins and Doncic or even Adebayo with your 15 pick.

Rounds 3 and 4 should still have a very good Big (C/PF) and G/PG out there for you if you are thinking about balance.

Good luck.

Hey Jim!

Thanks for your feedback. Lillard will def not be available at pick 10. I have a feeling Trae may be gone too which I am okay with.

The question is how risk-averse should one be with later draft picks. Is it time to just go for a home run and go all in with Kawhi and KD combo?  Or just play it safe with guys like with Booker and Tatum? (These guys should play every game.)

The guys available between 10-15 tend to be wing players. So I guess the later round may be all about selecting best player available or just grab a C/PG.

Cheers!

Last season I went with Kawhi in two 12 team leagues where I had the 9th or 10th pick and he was solid there.  He did seem to break down late in real NBA playoffs this past season.  Going for Kawhi and Durant would be more risk than I would want this season, but I understand why some may want to try.  You know that both of these guys will sit almost all of the back to backs this season.  If you are playing H2H I definitely would not take Kawhi and Durant together.

Personally I am willing to take some small amount of calculated risk if I have a late round one pick on either my first or second round player, but going for risk with both players is not what I would do.

Part of the fun (and agony) of fantasy sports is weighing risk vs reward objectively.  You won't always be right, but you want to play the odds more times than not.

And I am willing to take more risk for more reward as I move later into drafts.

Hey Jim.

I def agree that Kawhi and Durant are risky. So I did some research and found the website below. It basically shares information about rest days/back-to-back play days. I usually don't think about rest days but this year is a little different. Fantasy teams have to start strong because of the shortened season.

Kawhi and Durant have from 5-7 back to back games for the first half of the season. I would say resting that much within the first 40 games of the season is a lot. Other guys I need to double check would include Lebron, Porzingis, Kemba, etc.

(I don't know if HOOPBALL offers the same information)
