How do you even start to rank players with a new Dynasty competition in mind. Generally with re-draft leagues, you can get a good idea of rookies, players who had a good/bad year and the stars generally stay as stars year to year (except Melo).
I have pick 12 in a 20 team league new dynasty - 8Cat Roto, which could see me get any player from Steph Curry, Lebron, Kawhi, Donovan Mitchell - the options are as unpredictable as possible. The question is, where do you grab the rooks and first year guys like Mitchell, Tatum, Ball & Lauri; where do you take Luca, Ayton or JJJ? With a Dynasty lens... its all new to me.
Any advice or examples of previous years dynasty draft results would help greatly!

I am very upset I don't have Donovan in my keeper league.
Generally in a 20 teamer you want your 1st pick to be a clear top 20 guy. This is your stud, and the guy that you can build around. It's cool and fun to be the guy rebuilding with all youth, until you keep sucking every year, imo. Personally, I like to take the best guy available at that 1st pick, either a top 10 guy, or a VERY clear path to growing into a top 10 guy. At worst taking a top 15ish or younger guy with clear top 15ish upside is also advantageous if you're picking in the later half of a 20 teamer. You've got pick 8, and b/c it's a dynasty you could end up with a guy like Steph, if Steph is there take him and enjoy the next 4-5 year ride of getting a guy who could be top 4 in most seasons at pick 8. 🙂
From there take a look at how old your guy is, what his strengths weaknesses are, and start building. You're likely to miss out on some of the younger studs, b/c there's at least one guy in your league who is going to build with this years and last years rookies, and not care about anyone else.
If you're main guy is older, build your squad that way, go for more win-now, but mix in some youth, or mid-20's guys so you have some equity. If you're main guy is 25-28, aim for guys in that area, mix in some youth and some older guys (who usually hang around long on the board ie. Ariza, Dirk, Gay, etc).
Drafting is very opportunistic, sometimes players just fall to you, and even tho you want that young unproven rookie, Kyle Lowry with his perennial top 30 value is staring you in the face, and you just take his 2 more years of that kind of production, because rebuilding is cool, but flags fly forever. 🙂
That said, you'll start to get a feel for when young guys are starting to come off the board, and sometimes you can take a risk on a young prospect. In that case do your research through the various online dynasty resources like HB has, Hashtag BBall has a good one, then pick & choose the young guys you want to 'gamble' on to become the next big thing.

Jayson Taytum is an egregious ommission. Solid list though. I would have definitely still included Kawhi, but I can understand the trepidation.
I'm in a Salary based 30 team dynasty league with a salary cap of a 101 million (like the NBA), Unlike the NBA it's a hard cap. I drafted Kevin Durant and his $30 million dollar salary with my first pick and traded for another pick in the first round. I'm looking at selecting Steph Curry and his 37 million dollar salary. That would leave me with only 33 million to finish out my team. Obviously not ideal to have two Warriors but my other options will likely be Kawhi, Gobert, Drummond or Draymond.
Wondering if anyone has played in a salary cap dynasty league and has any recommendations for how they would handle this situation?
I've never been in a salary cap league, but Gobert has been a foundation of the 16 team keeper league I'm in, and has helped me win my league both seasons. Of course, I also have KAT (traded Jokic for him last season).
KD and Gobert would give you a very healthy advantage in blocks.
Draymond would probably be at the bottom of that list for me since Jordan Bell (and eventually Boogie) will allow more rest days and fewer minutes.

Here is my team build from the dynasty draft we have been going through the last week or so. I feel ok about it, a few that im not so sold on, but I am keen to share and discuss good/bad picks or answer any dynasty specific questions about other players in our draft.
