After talking trade with a guy who has 2 of these 3, and I have the other, it dawned on me that these young rookie bigs value is very similar long term... so I thought I'd pose the question to the forums.
How do you rank these 3 young bigs in a dynasty/keeper format? Is it as close as I think it is. What's your opinion?
Here's what I've come up with:
None of these guys are locks to become 'something'.
Collins - Age 20 - has stat set issues (no assists, FT% is sketchy, but hits the odd 3), a big pro is this year at least he'll get 30+mpg... his future probably hinges on who the Hawks draft this year, in a draft stocked full of C's... but with some swingmen and guards... If the Hawks go BPA and it's a guy like Ayton/Bagley/Bamba can Collins really play beside any of these guys?? That said, if they score a guy like Doncic, the lobs coming Collins way would be fun as hell, and he'd thrive in an uptempo system that Bud could potentially install.
Jarrett Allen - Age 20 (BBall Monster has him at 19.9) Seems to have good hands, is less the athlete that Collins is but longer/taller, and in a system that he can probably thrive in but that doesn't ask a lot of him. The downside is the Nets may only play him 25mpg for the considerable future, if they feel like they can win with RHJ (or someone else) playing some small ball C... that said in 25mpg his blocks could, solid %'s and rebound rate could propel him to top 50ish range... maybe?
Jordan Bell - Age 23 - all the tools to stuff the stat sheet, but the death lineup is still Draymond at C, and he's only on a 2 year contract, does the carriage turn into a pumpkin after that... GSW has had horrible success developing draft picks (esp. 2nd round guys) as of the past few years... probably tops out at 20-25mpg this season and next... can he fit with another squad if GSW doesn't re-sign him or a suitor with deeper pockets/cap space comes calling?? He's a per 36 monster, but is hit or miss when he gets 20+ mins it seems. At 23, can he develop more consistency... He could literally be Draymond lite (minus 3's) with maybe better FG%.
Take away age, and I tend to lean towards Bell, but add the age factor and everything becomes close... it almost depends on whose talent & situation you believe in most.
Would love to hear everyone's opinion's.
I like Collins for the fit. Atlanta is going young as hell and just starting their rebuild, which gives him time to learn and grow.
Nets want to start getting better now, so Allen could have a shorter leash.
And Bell just doesn't have room in GSW.
I think I lean Collins.
Definitely Collins has the development lead and the best opportunity outlook on the horizon.
