I love me some defensive stats and these two guys seem really intriguing to me.
JJJ is only 18 and will take awhile to adjust but I absolutely love his potential, especially considering he can drill threes. On the other hand, Mo Bamba seems a bit more NBA ready and his blocks should be ridiculous. Also it seems like everyone's assuming Dallas will draft him which should help him earn minutes quickly.
Thoughts?
JJJ any given day, his floor his much higher. It will depend on where they end up for sure, but JJJ is a better player already and have a more logical path to become a very good NBA player.
I don't agree on Bamba being more NBA ready then JJJ, Bamba streght and lack of ofensive tools are something he will have to overcome and while he can become a very interesting NBA player, a sort of a Gobert with a 3 point shoot, there is also a path for him to become a Hasheem Thabeet (What I hope not because he is a great kid for all accounts).
Jaren Jackson Jr. is the guy here, and, in my opinion isn't particularly close.
Someone who loves rooks get in here!
This really depends on situation, where they end up. If they both end up where they're expected JJJ in ATL, Bamba in Dal, it could be pretty close. I've managed to take in a ton of draft content this year, and in real basketball JJJ is definitely the sure thing over Bamba, but Bamba has the higher ceiling IF he can hit his 3's, and be a switch defender.
What neither do great is score, so you're probably not interested in either of them for that. IF you like scoring Bagley/Ayton are the bigs for you in this draft.
If you believe in Bamba's shooting, then he's really interesting - the rare 2 triples/2 blks combo could be a real thing with him. But that said, JJJ looks like he'll be a triple 1 guy (3's, stls, blks) right off the bat, he might get eaten nightly in actual play, but for Fantasy, he should be solid, just don't expect more than 5-6 boards a night (hopefully).
All in all, fantasy wise they could be pretty even - but help in different cats - JJJ is a year younger, so if we're talking strictly dynasty value he gets the nod there. But if Bamba eventually hits his ceiling it could look something like 15ppg, 2 triples, 10rpg, 1 stl, 2.5 blks with decent percentages.
Personally I think JJJ has the higher ceiling in real basketball play, and a safer floor in fantasy, but Bamba has the higher ceiling when it comes to strictly fantasy with a better chance to bottom out in real life.
One thing to note, Bamba is NOT Thabeet, his physical gifts and IQ are much greater than Thabeets ever were.
Some great colour here - thanks guys
I don't think Bamba will be Thabeet. I love the kid and wish him a lot of success, but he will have to show that the signs he show are real and sustainable in order to be a impact player, my point was, he isn't a sure thing, and JJJ, Wendel Carter floor are much higher then Bamba floor, there is a path for him not to be an amazing impact player, I still like him and he have a great ceiling. I still think JJj and that it isn't close.
What do you guys think of my order in the rest of the Centers (Not called JJJ or Ayton):
1. Wendel Carter
2. Bamba
3. Bagley
and the Guards:
1. Luka
2. Shai
3. Young
4. Sexton
Good day to everyone.
I've got JJJ over Bamba. Both guys are tantalizing prospects, but JJJ looks more polished offensively right now. He hit eight 3-pointers in one Summer League game. JJJ also has a clearer path to minutes for this upcoming season. He can start at PF next to Marc Gasol. Bamba might come off the bench for awhile.
