I was offered Holmes for Brook Lopez in my 9-cat H2H dynasty league. Team offering is in first and I’m in second. We both will have 1st round byes. I have an aging team but am leaning towards taking this trade. I have N. Powell in my IR currently but I can drop him put Holmes in the IR spot and stream that position. Only thing that’ll hurt is I’m first in league in blocks probably because Lopez. Is it worth the long term investment to move an aging Lopez for a younger Holmes (who’s a stud when healthy) and risk losing in the playoffs?
Is your dynasty league limited for keepers, or do you guys keep everyone year-to-year with no repercussions nor yearly limits? Holmes clearly has better long term upside compared to Brook Lopez, but Lopez won't necessarily decline next season. He's shooting poorly this year, but the counting 3's and blocks are still there. The other and maybe bigger factor is that you'd be helping the guy who's directly competing with you for this year's championship, and even in dynasty, that should be the #1 factor so long as you're in contention. Powell is also due back soon-ish, and Holmes is dealing with a labral tear. It's not an exact win to drop Powell for Holmes in the short term, or for this season. I'd probably sit on Brook.
Thank you for the advice. Yes we keep our entire roster each year. And I’d love to get Holmes but I think you’re right. My window on winning is closing with my aging team. Just going to go for it now!
