Hey guys,
been on this thread for sometime, but I'm not sure how you would think about this; Value pick or Strategy pick for H2H.
Do you pick somebody based on the overwhelming value they provide at that draft spot or do you pick based on the strategy you are using. Say you're drafting for punting 3pts & %s, and steph curry falls to round 2. Drummond is available, what do you do? (SC is no brainer, but later rounds its not so clear.)
This is an extreme example, but I think the answer lies in my analysis below. Let me know your thoughts.
In the dynamics of a beginner / intermediate league most of the times, players are drafted based on a few things i've observed:
1. Player brand name (Rookies, Hyped, Proven)
2. Player positions
3. Builds (Punts)
4. Random...(auto or something)
so top players that are missed this season could be bledsoe, middleton, prince, gharis etc.
--- analysis to follow in next post, i need to take a dump atm ---
Hah. What a climax to that post.
I think if you're committed to a build, you draft based on that build in the late rounds. But I think your build should be based on the best players to fall to you in the early rounds, if that makes sense.
Agreed with Dan. Generally speaking early on you take the best possible value while avoiding guys who would kill you in a category. Later on you fixate on players who have good value but whose value helps your areas of focus.
This is my 4th year attempting fantasy and the best advice is to not focus on a strategy too much. Draft the best possible options available early on and then from there use a strategy to some extent. I’ve made the mistake of focusing too much on a plan then within the first two picks it’s out the window and you lose the plot and draft and really underwhelming team. Last 2 years I’ve gone with having a general idea of what will be available and then have a frame of what I’d want if say 4 players around where I’m picking are available and go from there. Pick out a few standout players you would want further down and at the end go for upside as much as possible.
Dan summed it up best on the Podcast last year...
"Too Bad, and Who Cares."
Top 50-60 (4-5 rounds) picks you have to take best available... if this doesnt fit your strategy "Too Bad". (Some wiggle room within 5-10 ADP)
Once you get below this, "Who Cares". Pick to fit your strategy/build. Guys below this are bunched pretty close in terms of value so it really doesnt matter. Pick based on when you expect your guys to go off the board.
The implication of this is that you need to have an idea of how you would build your team based on landing each of the first round options before going i to the draft. But the flexibility to adjust on the fly. No wonder this game is so hard.
That's been a long dump! Hope he's OK.
Hahahahaha!
Someone alert the authorities
