HBers... I could really use your help. I’ve NEVER played in a league this small and although a 10-teamer leaves a lot of availability out there, I’m stumped as to whether I’m trying to find “my guys” here or if the whole thing is just best available all the way through? Not needing to take fliers on anyone for upside due to the amount of guys on the wire, what do I do? Have any of you done a league this small before, and if so, how’d you handle it? My draft is tonight, in 3 hours. TIA.
Try and trade for as many early round players as possible by floating a bunch of 2-for-1 trades.
Annakarina is spot on.
Maybe you could even try to trade draft PICKS to move up.
See if someone will give you a 1st rounder for your 3rd and 4th together?
Or maybe offer up a 4th and 5th for a 2nd rounder... stuff like that.
Is your league a long time bunch of guys you know. I would get a feel to see if the first couple picks they start reaching for the guys that you want and then switch up to a more aggressive approach. I had my draft last week and 1 guy was reaching for pg and rookies such as ja morant, scary terry, and rj barrett. Good luck with your draft. Let us know who you got
Thanks for the advice, Anna, Dan, and Kchan.
So this draft ended up being a 10-team a just after I posted this message and I ended up with the 7th pick. It was SUPER crazy as a) a lot of guys went earlier than they should’ve and b) O realized after it that it was a H2H points league and not categories.
That being said, here’s how I made out... would love your feedback and any changes I should make.
G - Bledsoe. Beal. SGA. FVV. Delon (DAL).
F - RoCo. Isaac. Thybulle.
C - Myles. Collins (ATL). KAT.
IR - WCS. Klay.
So the problem is that guys like Myles Turner take a big hit in points formats. KAT, too.
Do you gain points or lose points for %s in any way?
Hmm... really should’ve checked out the full league settings before the draft. Assumed it was H2H since that’s what our baseball league is with the same commish.
Stats values are as follows:
Field Goals Attempted (FGA) 1
Field Goals Made (FGM) 1
Free Throws Attempted (FTA) 1
Free Throws Made (FTM) 1
3-point Shots Attempted (3PTA) 1
3-point Shots Made (3PTM) 1
Points Scored (PTS) 1
Total Rebounds (REB) 1
Assists (AST) 1
Steals (ST) 1
Blocked Shots (BLK) 1
Turnovers (TO) -1
So only TOs are a loss of points.
Yikes those settings are rough.
You're going to want to pivot hard into VOLUME SCORERS since nothing else seems to matter. Only 1 point for a block is miserable...
Getting the same points for a block as a missed free throw would drive me absolutely insane.
A format where the likes of Rozier and Brickbrook would shine lol
Hahaha yeah that's wild.
So would you say I drop/trade guys like: SGA, RoCo, Isaac, WCS, and Delon? What could I aim for with them?
Pick up guys like: Sexton, Barnes (SAC), Clarkson, Collins (POR), or Sato?
Thanks again for the advice everyone.
Collins on Portland is not really profiling as a points league guy. You just want guys that are chucking up shots non-stop. Sexton, Clarkson, Barnes make some sense, there. I don't think I'd drop any of the guys you mentioned for them. But yes, you should start trying to package some of those more well-rounded guys in 2-for-1 trades for some volume dudes on other squads.
Dan... do you know of a site where I can view projections for player usage to help with this?
That's more of a DFS-y thing, but I think NBA.com has advanced stats like that.
