I had the 10th pick in the draft. I kind of fumbled the first two rounds, then I decided four Wizards starters was too hilarious to pass up. Also, Swanigan got sniped from me in the final round, so I figured why not grab Jabari then scour the waiver wire? I think I did okay after sabotaging myself. Looking forward to the season!
Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome!
PG - John Wall (WAS) (1st)
SG - Bradley Beal (WAS) (3rd)
G - Jrue Holiday (NOR) (5th)
SF - Otto Porter (WAS) (4th)
PF - Marquese Chriss (PHO)(6th)
F - James Johnson (MIA) (8th)
C - Rudy Gobert (UTA) (2nd)
C - Marcin Gortat (WAS) (7th)
Flx - Josh Jackson (PHO) (10th)
Flx - Julius Randle (LAL) (9th)
Bench - Allen Crabbe (BKN) (11th)
Bench - Dwyane Wade (CLE) (12th)
Bench - Jabari Parker (MIL) (13th)
Gobert, Otto, Jrue, Gortat, JJ, Randle, Crabbe all solid. Wall probably a bit early for 9-cat. But this draft will set you up capably as long as you make good waiver moves.
Yeah, I'm kicking myself for not taking Jokic with my first pick. I moved Jabari to IL and grabbed Ghostface Ily, by the way.
Nice nice. Ersan should have a strong start to the year, before he inevitably gets traded.
I was just offered Westbrook for Gobert and Randle. I'm fairly indifferent on Randle but that would leave me with Gortat as my only center and that seems... not good. Thoughts? The wire seems pretty sad with centers right now.
Is this Roto or Head to Head?
Head to head.
annakarina, what I really appreciate about your team is the solid front court. You have guys who will not only solidify your FG% and block a ton of shots, but also support the stealing nature of your guards. You also have done well to create a roster that will be competitive every week in low turnovers. That's why I don't like the Westbrook offer. What Westbrook does for your team is increase steals and assists (steals of which you already have on lock.) However, with the addition of Russell and subtraction of Gobert and Randle, suddenly your awesome FG% plummets, and you can forget about turnovers anymore. I personally don't think he is a good addition to your build.
You guys are doing some classic fantasy overthinking. If someone offers you a first round guy for basically ANYTHING other than a first round guy, you take it and worry about the consequences later.
Looking at basketball monster, last year Russ was 0.66 overall value, Gobert was 0.39, Randle -0.26. Hmm, perhaps some hat eating is in order.
(winky face)
The "worry about the consequences later" was definitely my thought process, the centers available on the wire are my main worry. For reference, some of the top centers available are Richaun Holmes (though my IL spot is currently filled with Jabari), Frank Kaminsky, Thon Maker, Tristan Thompson, Taj Gibson, Bobby Portis, Ivica Zubac.
I wouldn't think twice about trading and picking up Holmes if he weren't injured.
I guess I could either drop Jabari and move Holmes into the IL spot for the first few weeks, or grab one of those centers (or Okafor bleu) for now and hope Holmes stays on the wire until he's back from his injury?
Exactly. Someone will surface. They always do. I usually finish my season with about 30-40% of my team picked off the wire.
Trade accepted. Gonna miss you, Rudy.
