I'm running a league with some mates as a way to get them more involved and interested in the wonderful world of the NBA. Many of them are first timers who play fantasy football and so we thought we would make it similar to that, with H2H weekly lineups and a points format. What are some of the best options for customizing the scoring system? I was thinking about the following, which seems pretty standard:
Points (PTS) 1
Rebounds (REB) 1.2
Assists (AST) 1.5
Blocks (BLK) 2
Steals (STL) 2
Three's (3PM) 0.5
Turnovers (TO) -1
Double Doubles (DD) 2
Triple Doubles (TD) 5
and just for fun
Technicals (TF) 1
Any suggestions to make it more appealing/fun/interesting for newbies?
BIG POINT VALUE FOR EJECTIONS!
I don't know if it's possible to do these settings or if there's even a proper tracking for these stats, but how about 2 points for dunks? 2 points for 'and-1' plays? 10 points for game winning shots?
Also, instead of doing a snake draft, maybe you can do a randomized order for every round? So if you're really lucky, in a 10-team league, you can get pick 1, 11, 21, 31, 41 etc haha
Just throwing out ideas! Hope you have fun.
Oo oo.
25 points for winning a Shaqtin' a Fool trophy.
1,000,000 points for being Bebe Nogueira <3
Sounds good to me. Think I'll give myself the first pick too
I'd definitely add more value to 3s, steals, & blocks. That way your mates will roster players that are actually well rounded instead of guys who are just inefficient volume Reggie Jacksons.
The format I found on reddit was pretty useful -
PTS +0.5
FGMake +1.65
FGMiss -1.35
FTMake +0.75
FTMiss -2.25
3PM +2.5
REB +1
AST +1.75
TO -2.5
BLK, STL +3.5
We made the FG and FT points based on 45% and 75% league averages, respectively. If your player shoots over those percentages, you gain points, and if you shoot below, you lose points. As I said up there, all the other stats are loosely based on league averages.
I like that but I think it makes player rankings very close to how players are valued in other leagues and we might as well play roto or h2h. I dont mind overvaluing the popcorn stats for newbies (or myself) who will love seeing dunks and lobs and get excited seeing the points tick over. Good option though
