Hey! I'm currently slow drafting in a league, and at first I planned to experiment with a punt FT team, so I selected Drummond to pair with Westbrook. I wish I would've grabbed Ben Simmons instead, but alas...
I got to wondering, what if Westy's terrible FT season last year was a fluke? He's currently projected to shoot .808 FT on Fantrax.
My current roster after four rounds is:
Russell Westbrook (projected .808)
Donovan Mitchell (projected .813)
Klay Thompson (projected .854)
Andre Drummond (projected .535)
Now I'm wondering if it's possible to draft enough high free throw high percentage players to offset Drummond's atrocious numbers.
Is Drummond's 53% FT shooting a lost cause?
I think Drummond actually finished around 60%, which isn't terrible. You're looking for high-volume efficiency guys. Sure, Klay has high percentage, but he only shoots one per game, so his FT% is nowhere near as helpful as it looks.
Ideally for your model, trade Donovan or Klay for Jimmy Buckets. DeRozan also is a high percentage, high-volume guy.
Sweet Lou also comes to mind. 88% on 6.2 attempts is ELITE, but his spot in LAC's rotation is a little unclear right now, granted he'll be a solid 6th man if nothing else.
I.T. at 120 (yahoo ranks) also fits the mold, but there are so many question marks with him, that it's risky.
Similar guys to consider are Schroder, Gallinari and Reddick...all of who should come at nice discounts this year.
Good luck, brother!
It's possible, but you'll probably need TWO high volume good ones to offset him.
I’d like to think it would work but Russ is iffy. I’d prefer with Harden or Lillard as the main offset guy for FT%
I have now abandoned the idea of saving my free throw percentages, but I like my team so far!
Russell Westbrook
Donovan Mitchell
Klay Thompson
Gordon Hayward
Andre Drummond
DeAndre Jordan
I figure right now I'm doing pretty solid in 7 of the 9 categories excluding FT% and turnovers. Will try and pad more assists and blocks with my next picks.
I think I just pulled it off with harden and butler now repeat that 60 % effort!
