Been offered KAT for Steph. In 9cat roto.
I am 80 threes ahead of the nearest competitor and have Ingles, Miro, THJ, Cp3, dinwiddie, prince, ibaka to keep bombing away amd hold my lead.
There are also 6-10 points up for grabs in boards and blocks.
Its a step down, but statset/circumstance trumps pure value. Is this a horrible mistake to make?
I understand your position. I traded my Steph for an AD, but he's a lot closer than KAT is.
The key here is to recognize that you should be able to get more for Steph and not just settle for a 1:1.
Just because you are in a position of prioritizing need over value, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to trade that way.
You can always go back to the guy and say "hey, Curry's valued way higher than KAT, can I get a little something-something extra to offset my loss in value in the deal?" "Can you add someone?" "At the very least can we make this a 2:2, where I am the one who gains value on the mid-valued players?"
Yeah, i tried most of that already. Adamant its just a 1 for 1.
Other issue is the other high block/board guys who dont hurt FT are all with the guys hot on my heels.
They wont give me (and i dont want them to have steph.) Rather see him with the guy in bottom half (added bonus is that steph should let him catch my key competitors in a few stats and take some points off them).
I see. No way to catch up with boards? Even with low-end adds like Ed Davis and such?
It's really hard for me to endorse a move that's leaving a lot of value on the table.
That said, I've seen worse deals accepted and at least your move is purposeful and strategic and not just "I'm desperate for a big man, so f*ck it!"
Hm. Why is he so adamant that it's 1-for-1? Does he admit Steph is better, or does he just ignore the rankings?
Admits steph is better. But also very conscious of then context and statset benefits. Also, all of his suitable low end guys as a +1 are required to cover KATs absence.
He won our league the last 2 years, so being bottom half is not a sign of ability.
Side note:
We seem to have found a way to keep bottom half interested in their teams. Financial structure of the league includes additional payments for 7, 8, 9, 10th which go into the prize pool.
Yeah, we tried adding those payments, but forcing someone to pay more money if/when they lose is a nice way to get them to quit the league instead...
True. In this case its a small $ mates league (we play poker for more!), so has become more a point of friendly banter than a significant financial risk. Noone wants to have to throw in the extra change out of principle.
Seems to have kept people interested so far.
Haha, keep fighting the good fight
