Unless your league is Dynasty-format, rookie’s rarely get drafted yet can provide top-tier value when they arrive in the big leagues. Think of Spencer Strider last year; he was a relatively small name but came up and dominated. Here’s the best rookies in 2023 by position group.
Catcher
Francisco Alvarez (HM Yainer Diaz)
Probably the easiest choice of this list. Alvarez leads all rookie catchers in Home Runs, Runs, RBI’s and is in the top 3 in OPS, WRC+ and WAR. The former #1 prospect is simply one of the best offensive bats at the position in all of baseball.
Middle Infield – SS/2B
Matt McLain (HM Elly De La Cruz)
De La Cruz has shown the flashes that will make him one of the faces of MLB but McLain has been having more consistent production for a longer stretch of games. McLain is batting .298 with an .881 OPS while pouring in 52 Runs, 12 Homers and 9 steals this season. Extremely underrated next to all of those Cincy rookies.
