After an insanely packed Martin Luther King Jr. day which had a 14-game slate, we were starved tonight with the sole game being Clippers at Mavs. There’s not much to chew on, but let’s take a look at what went down tonight and take a look at what we have in store for tomorrow. The biggest news tonight would be Dwight Powell tearing his right Achilles on an on contact injury. He was on the edge of fantasy value for most of the season, but his impact in reality was greater than fantasy. It always sucks to see a guy lose a season due to injury and we’re hoping he can come back stronger than ever.
Lines of the Night
Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers – 36 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, three steals, two blocks and one 3-pointer (12-for-29 FG, 11-for-12 FT)
That’s the sixth game in a row of at least 30 points for Leonard and without Paul George, he’s been the No. 1 player in fantasy hoops by a wide margin. During this stretch, he’s averaging 36.0 points, 6.5 boards, 4.3 dimes, 2.8 steals, 1.0 blocks and 2.7 3s on .530 shooting. The Clippers are 5-1 during this span and of course, load management will most likely have him sit against a cake matchup vs. the Hawks. The back-to-backs will be a problem all year, but Leonard has been so good it doesn’t really matter.
Add(s) of the Night
Maxi Kleber, Dallas Mavericks – eight points, five rebounds, one assist and two blocks (4-for-7 FG)
Dwight Powell injured his Achilles on a non contact play after nine minutes of action which led to Kleber playing 32 in this contest. Kristaps Porzingis is a constant question mark so Kleber should be able to maintain some solid value.
Drop Zone
Dwight Powell, Dallas Mavericks
The injury to his Achilles is most likely a season ender which is a bummer all around as he was playing well alongside Luka Doncic.
Injuries
Zion Williamson makes his long awaited debut tomorrow night against the Spurs. His knee rehabilitation has gone well and the Pelicans played it extra cautious with him so I expect him to come out of the gate soaring, even if his minutes are limited.
Derrick Favors has lower back soreness and is questionable for Wednesday.
J.J. Redick is probable with a left hamstring strain.
Jrue Holiday has a left elbow tricep strain and is probable for Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.
Bruce Brown Jr. is available for Wednesday after dealing with a right thumb sprain.
Rudy Gobert looks good to go for Wednesday as his ankle seems healed.
Draymond Green should play on Wednesday after sitting last game with an illness.
Lauri Markkanen will be available for Wednesday after recovering from a left ankle sprain.
Austin Rivers is questionable against the Nuggets on Wednesday with a sprained right thumb.
Goran Dragic has a knee bruise, but is listed as probable for Wednesday.
Jimmy Butler will be probable for Wednesday with right hip soreness.
Marcus Morris is questionable for Wednesday with a sprained right ankle.
Rajon Rondo is probable to play on Wednesday with a fractured right finger.
Anthony Davis is still bothered by his glute injury and is questionable for Wednesday.
Reggie Jackson (back) and Andre Drummond (lip laceration) are both questionable for Wednesday.
Markieff Morris is probable for Wednesday with a jammed right big toe.
Rudy Gay is probable for Wednesday with an illness.
Steven Adams has a left ankle sprain and is questionable for Wednesday’s tilt against the Magic.
Jaylen Brown (right ankle sprain) and Kemba Walker (left knee soreness) are both questionable for Wednesday.
Rundown
LAC 110 @ DAL 107
The Clippers have been on a roll thanks to heroic efforts from Kawhi Leonard, but Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell have been steady all season and tonight was no different. Paul George is sitting with a hamstring injury but should return eventually, which means Williams will take the biggest hit. His value is sky high right now and it’s definitely going to drop when Geroge is back. Landry Shamet had a nice game, but he still can’t be trusted on a daily basis.
Kristaps Porzingis logged 27 minutes and the knee seems to be a recurring issue all season. There’s a lot of risk involved if you’re going to trade for him, but his value is too low to ship off for anything equal in return. You just have to hope they play it safe and he can keep playing as some stats are better than none. The 1-for-8 from deep mark is awful, but when players are playing hurt, the shooting is usually the first thing that wavers.Tim Hardaway Jr. is actually having himself a nice season playing alongside mega star Luka Doncic and has cemented himself as a strong 3-point streamer. Maxi Kleber is going to get a ton of run now and should be scooped in most formats as a guy who can get a triple-one with traditional big man stats.
