• Don’t look now, but we’re getting pretty close to the start of the fantasy playoffs in a lot of leagues. Your time to make up ground is dwindling fast, and adding a hot performer at the right time could be enough to put you over the top. That’s why we’re here. In recent weeks we’ve seen a lot of adds pop up as injury fill-ins or guys who are obviously on hot streaks, but this week we’ve seen some players rise into new roles and situations that could result in relatively sustainable value.

Before we get to the adds, apologies to those who got super hyped for TJ McConnell. He wasn’t bad, but Tyrese Haliburton returned shockingly fast. Onward and upward.

    Top Adds

    Grayson Allen, G, Phoenix Suns

This is probably the last time we’ll feature Allen here, as he’s now rostered in about three quarters of all Yahoo leagues (ESPN numbers are still lagging way behind), but any time you post a week of top-10 value and are still available in a good chunk of leagues, you’re going to get mentioned. There have been rumors that the Suns could package Allen in pursuit of a potential roster upgrade, but at this point you’re hoping for the status quo. Allen is rolling and has proven to be a good fit in Phoenix.

    Marvin Bagley, C, Washington Wizards

Bagley was traded to the Wizards, whose whole deal this year has been having Daniel Gafford and nobody else at all at center. Last week Bagley averaged 18.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks on .523 shooting from the field in 30.8 mpg, benefiting from Gafford’s absence. The one blemish, and this is rightfully going to give some managers pause, is a .615 mark at the charity stripe. If you can look past that, Bagley might be a reasonable double-double threat on a nice mark from the field even if he settles into a timeshare role once Gafford gets healthy.

    Kevin Huerter, G, Sacramento Kings

Huerter got bumped from the starting five in Sacramento but it’s clear that he’s the only long-term option for the spot that’s currently on the roster. He’s now scored 26, 10 and 31 points in his last three games, with multiple 3-pointers and at least one steal in each of those games. This is a player who can get in a top-100 rhythm when he’s playing to his capability, and given the track record that Huerter established last year he’s worth a roll of the dice.

    Alec Burks, G, Detroit Pistons

Burks was dynamite last week and while he’s going to slow down once Cade Cunningham returns (possibly imminently), anyone in need of points and 3-pointers shouldn’t hesitate. He’s scored at least 12 points in 13 straight games and has two 30-plus efforts in his last three outings. Burks is also shooting well lately, and finished with top-10 value last week on .489 from the field. He has a stable role, Cunningham out or not, and offers scoring pop that stands out on a roster that’s very light on offensive skill.
