• The past week was a big success and hopefully we’ll say the same thing this week. If you read last week’s article, you learned about a developing heat wave that would bring many great hitting environments to MLB parks. You also were encouraged to play fringe hitters such as Mike Yastrzemski, Lars Nootbar and Alec Burleson. And guess what? Those three hitters combined for 6 homers and 15 RBI – BOOM!

It will be hard to match last week’s hitting success. The heat wave will gradually weaken in the next few days. By the middle of next week, temperatures will be near average at most locations. Also, with few games on the chilly West Coast, we’ll be left with mostly uniform temperatures and fewer targets for great hitting environments. So, take advantage of the remaining heat this weekend by targeting these games:

    TARGETS:

    This Weekend’s Best Hitting Environments

    • Tampa Bay at Baltimore (Friday-Sunday; great combination of heat and humidity but we’ll need a little luck dodging summertime thunderstorms each day)
    • San Diego at Cincinnati (Friday & Sunday only; these two games are good with temps near 90 and low chances for rain; skip Saturday’s game if possible due to a very high rain chance)
    • LA Dodgers at Kansas City (Friday-Sunday; temps near 90 degrees with low rain chances for this series)
    • San Francisco at Chicago White Sox (Sunday only; temps aren’t anything special Friday or Saturday but increase nicely to 90 degrees on Sunday)

    Targets for Early Next Week:

    • San Diego at Philadelphia (Monday-Wednesday; warm and humid but a few thunderstorms are possible)
    • Detroit at Washington (Tuesday-Thursday; warm and humid each game)
    • Milwaukee at NY Mets (Tuesday-Thursday; warm and humid each game)
    • Houston at Colorado (Tuesday-Thursday; it’s hard to leave out a summertime series at Coors and this one should be favorably warm with just a low chance for a passing thunderstorm)

That’s it for the list of best games to target. Now let’s see which ones to avoid during the next seven days:

    AVOIDS:

    This Weekend’s Worst Hitting Environments

    • Toronto at Boston (Friday & Saturday; MLB’s two coldest games this weekend with temps just 68-70 degrees)
    • Minnesota at Detroit (Friday only; high chance of thunderstorms)
    • San Diego at Cincinnati (Saturday only; high chance of thunderstorms)
    • NY Mets at Pittsburgh (Saturday only; high chance of thunderstorms)
