The one problem with fantasy football is that everyone always loves too many guys, but you can only draft one team per league, so a mock draft is a great way to see where people are actually leaning. We just completed our expert, 12-team, 1QB, PPR mock draft and it’s a great snapshot to see where players are valued and where you need to draft them if you don’t want to be a day short and pick late. Since it’s a mock draft and not a real one, the team composition wasn’t as important so I am going to review round-by-round and evaluate each pick on it’s own merit with a little weight to team formation re stacks/handcuffs and team-targeting. You won’t find a better template for predicting when and where players are going to go and which draft slot might be the best fit for your team build.
Here’s a round-by-round review of our mock draft.
Round 1
1.@jonmosales – RB Bijan Robinson
2. @RickKamlaSports – WR – Ja’Marr Chase
3. @Hamarneezy – WR – Justin Jefferson
4. @itsheintime – RB – Jahmyr Gibbs
5. @AintDunneYet – RB – Saquon Barkley
6. @shade_fantasy – RB – CeeDee Lamb
7. @BigLoaf_Fantasy – RB – Christian McCaffrey
8. @patrickksl – WR – Nico Collins
9. @NateH714 – WR – Malik Nabers
10. @jbaum8525 – WR -Amon-Ra St. Brown
11. @AQfresh – TE – Brock Bowers
12. @PaulW_34 RB -Derrick Henry
I got the first pick and it’s not a slam dunk first overall pick in my opinion. Ja’Marr Chase was the obvious pick, but I’m a little wary of his insane season a year ago and while the CIN defense is still terrible and primed for shoot-outs, WR is just so deep, I want to go RB with my first pick when it makes sense. I think Robinson has a great chance to be the RB1 and hasn’t reached the ceiling of his potential yet. He only had one run of 30+ yards last season and that seems like an aberration, but mostly I’m banking on this ATL offense to be a top-five unit that scores close to 30 PPG. That 8th pick seems to be the sweet spot though and Nico Collins is the only WR I would target in the first round. I think he’s going to be the WR1 this season and it might not be that close, although Chase is going to set the bar high. I would have gone Gibbs second and while I love Bowers more than anyone, using your first round pick is a still a little steep especially since he would have been there on the way back. While ceiling is something I’m chasing in this round, health is the most important factor and for that reason CMC is a never draft, especially top-10 and Nabers while an insane talent has been banged up all summer. The air is thin at the top and the reason for choosing one superstar over another is often marginal at best.
Round 2
1. @PaulW_34s – RB Jonathan Taylor
2. @AQfresh – WR – Puka Nacua
3.@jbaum8525 – RB – Ashton Jeanty
4.@NateH714 – RB – De’Von Achane
5.@patrickksl – WR – Brian Thomas Jr.
6.@BigLoaf_Fantasy – WR – Drake London
7.@shade_fantasy – WR – AJ Brown
8.@AintDunneYet – RB – Chase Brown
9.@itsheintime – WR -Ladd McConkey
10.@Hamarneezy – RB – Josh Jacobs
11.@RickKamlaSports – RB – Bucky Irving
12.@jonmosales TE -Trey McBride
