De'Aaron FoxPG, Sacramento KingsSpeaking at his introductory press conference on Wednesday, Monte McNair said that the vision for the Kings is to play up-tempo behind De'Aaron Fox.
McNair added that Luke Walton agrees with the assessment, which seems questionable given the way that he forced the Kings to slow it down in his first season as head coach. Leveraging Fox's elite quickness to push the pace had Sacramento on the playoff bubble with Dave Joerger at the helm but the team pivoted in another direction last year, trying to fine-tune their halfcourt offense in preparation for grinding, mucky playoff games — games that they didn't qualify for anyway. Beyond Fox, the lack of pace seemed to affect Buddy Hield, so it's encouraging that the new top decision-maker has already identified one of the Kings' best advantages. Time will tell if that's how it plays out on the court.
