Hey, I think my post got lost too but here's my roster. Its an 8-team 9-cat H2H daily league. 10 spots (PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, C, UTIL, UTIL) + 6 Bench + 2 IL.
Haliburton, Kyrie, McCollum, Melton
Jaylen Brown
OG, MPJ, Kawhi
Randle, JJJ, Olynyk
Ayton, Horford, Bol, Vanderbilt, Poku
IL: Embiid, Maxey
Not sure what to do when Embiid and Maxey come back. I guess Melton would be one of my first drops since his value is more short term. There are still some rosterable players on the wire - Claxton, Hartenstein, Plumlee, Bones, Murphy, Nance, Caleb Martin, Payne, Draymond, Tre Jones, Herb Jones, Marcus Morris...
We get 6 adds per week, and to give you an idea of how active the league is, it's week 6 and I've used 40 moves. The manager with the next most has used 10. I'm in 3rd place and have a good chance to get a little separation and move into 2nd after this week. Thanks in advance!
@ryan-catus Hi Ryan. It's still going!
Great value on Westbrook at $6 if this league counts FTM instead of TO!
It looks to me like this is a guard stats team that can compete in BLK. My guess is that you have been generally successful in AST, BLK, FTM, PTS, STL and 3PT. It looks like you're probably going to be somewhere in the middle for FG%, FT% and REB. In all honesty, I don't actually see any true weaknesses.
Any future concerns could probably be addressed by an "addition by subtraction" approach whereby you're trying to prune out the negative contributors to your shooting percentages. Alternatively, you could simply decide to punt FG% or FT% and start looking at ways to improve your overall value by shipping out your high-value contributors in your chosen punt category to shore up your production elsewhere. If that's the route you take, I'd punt on FT% and try to add more of the players with high volume and low accuracy. That way you can still recoup value with the FTM while presumably keeping your FG% high.
If you're regularly winning in AST and STL as you say, then you should also be making a conscious effort to keep your 3PT up. Those categories all go hand-in-hand and it's easy to boost 3PT with waiver wire moves or end-of-bench players. If you're at a crossroads between PTS and 3PT in future matchups, I'd be prepared to sacrifice PTS for extra production from range.
Conley is getting a lot of buzz as the true reason for the Jazz's early success. I think he's about to enter a really nice sell high zone that you could look into. There's no issue with keeping a productive player rostered, but I do believe that he was rightly identified as a player that could drop off in the second half of the season. If there is a way to convert him into a swingman with a positive AST valuation, I would probably do so.
There are a few players that I think would be particularly nice on your squad: Aaron Gordon, Bruce Brown, John Konchar, Josh Hart, Kevin Huerter and Royce O'Neale. Depending on how the TJ Warren situation shakes out, I think he might belong on this as well. If we get "Bubble Jordan" then I might actually knock O'Neale off this list altogether. Some other players to consider by free agency or trade would be: Aleksej Pokusevski, Dennis Smith Jr., Jalen McDaniels, John Wall, Kelly Oubre Jr., KJ Martin, Larry Nance Jr., Mason Plumlee, Steven Adams and Trey Murphy III.
I hope this helps! Good luck.
Hi @dballbball !
My post might have been lost. Maybe fourth time’s the charm? 😅 Please rate my team. Appreciate the work you do. Playing in a 10T 9 Cat. Notable trades: Traded Sabonis for Gobert and Middleton, KPJ and Jamal Murray for Jaylen Brown.
@reddy Hey Reddy! I'm on it.
That's a pretty thin league. It will be harder to rationalize stashing players when you're basically aiming for top-100 production at all times. I am staring at Leonard while I write this. He is a player I would be perpetually trying to trade and, in a league of this size, I would probably be prepared to take a loss in value on the deal.
I have absolutely no interest in Randle for any fantasy team. He's on a heater lately, so I'd be trying to move him before he reverts to form as a fringe top-100 guy. It's no secret that Randle had a top-50 season two years ago. That's about where he's valued over the last week, so I'd be using that as the selling point for the other manager. You have a team that should be competitive in BLK, FG%, FT%, STL and TO, so Randle's non-value in these categories is particularly notable.
PTS doesn't seem like it will be reliable enough for you to consider it as a reliable strength. In an eight-team league, I think it's worthwhile to let that category go so that you can be more assured of strong finishes elsewhere. It's not a punt, but you can only focus your attention in so many places and it's unlikely that you'll get a strong return on investment if you pursue PTS. This is an extremely volatile category that relies heavily on production from the top. There are others that you are equally strong in that you can more easily compete in through injuries.
I think you can make a strong push in REB. Recognizing that I've already advised you to trade a strong producer in Randle, I think you're going to be strong in this area regardless. Trying to roster players that can get you 5+ RPG would still be worthwhile.
3PT seems like it will fall short of what I think would be a benchmark of production in a condensed league. It's a punt, if you ask me.
Can you top up AST? It looks like you're on the right side of average but I think you're beatable in this area. There's probably a few solid producers on your wire. I really like the idea of adding Tre Jones. Add him to your shopping list.
Rather than make my typical list, I'll recommend some other free agents based on what you've given me. First off, I think Draymond Green should be rostered in all leagues. He fits your team remarkably well and is better long-term than Olynyk, Pokusevski or Vanderbilt. Claxton is ranked in the top-50 right now, so he shouldn't be on any wires either, but I'll warn you that this move would hurt your competitiveness in FT%. The last player I would consider is Herb Jones. Now, he's not exactly having a great season, but he is more than capable of producing in all the areas you need, including positional eligibility. I'm picking him up in every league if possible, and he has fallen to me in several places lately.
Looking for players to drop? I'd go in this order: Vanderbilt, Pokusevski, Olynyk and then Melton. If possible, I would swap all four of those players for the four names above. The only thing that gives me pause is the current valuation of Melton and Olynyk, but I feel comfortable with the move from a ROS perspective.
Let me know if you have more questions! Cheers.
@nsfn Hey pal. I got you!
No problem with the Gobert-Sabonis swap, but I think you got taken in the other trade. It's all good though - you still have a strong squad.
Mathurin is not a 10-team, 9-cat guy if you ask me. Try to sell him before he hits the rookie wall. The Pacers were a nightmare for injury management once they started tanking last year and I want no part of that. You already have enough investment in them with Haliburton.
Barnes, Hyland and O'Neale are all streamer-level players in a league of this size. I wouldn't be holding on to them for any particular reason if there is an appealing free agent.
Overall, this team doesn't look too competitive in PTS. That's not a category worth protecting, in my opinion.
Both FG% and FT% do seem like they are relatively strong and should be kept that way.
Your 3PT production isn't overwhelming. In a condensed league, you're probably going to have to stream in some extra help to compensate for the non-value of players like Antetokounmpo, Barnes and Gobert. I'm doing some rough math here, but you're probably going to need an additional 4.2-to-5.4 3PM in order to get back to par with this category.
I like your potential in TO. Keep this low with future moves and try to get rid of the high TO players that don't give you many counting stats. Ex. Hyland and Mathurin.
AST is fine. I don't think you're running away with this category but it will be hard to lose regularly with three top-tier point guards rostered. Adding value here should be a priority. This is especially true because you can assume some risk in TO.
I have absolutely no concerns with REB. You're strong here and should continue to be. I'm not sure if you'll even need to stream in extra production in tough matchups. Ditto for BLK and STL, but I tend to believe that you can never get comfortable with the STL category in particular. Use your streamers to get an edge in STL whenever possible because there's typically not much of a difference between specialists and top-tier producers in terms of output.
If you're looking for some new players to help you out, I think it's worth taking a shot on some of the following: Aleksej Pokusevski, Ayo Dosunmu, Bruce Brown, Caleb Martin, Chris Boucher, De'Anthony Melton, Grant Williams, Herb Jones, Jaden McDaniels, Jalen Williams, Jarred Vanderbilt, John Konchar, Kelly Olynyk, Kevin Huerter, Larry Nance Jr., Malcolm Brogdon, Marcus Morris, Monte Morris, Royce O'Neale and Santi Aldama.
I hope this helps! Message me if you have more questions. Cheers.
@dballbball I wasn't able to get Draymond unfortunately. I agree he shouldn't be on the wire but those names being there should give you an idea of not only how thin but also how casual it is. There are 4 other managers who are experienced and 3 that are newbies. But all of them pretty much set their lineup at the beginning of the week and forget about it. I have the luxury of seeing who's injured and superstreaming. We have 6 moves per week and I've used 42 so far this season. The next highest has used 11. If I dropped Olynyk, no one would pick him up. Melton and Milton were just sitting there so I rostered them because I had space with Kawhi and Maxey on IL. Streaming has been a big part of why I'm in 1st place. I do my little weekly projections and can see where I need a little topping off and act accordingly. My first question is, in my situation, is it out of the question to completely drop Kawhi? If I did, I could easily slide CJ or MPJ into my IL and stream so many guys. Killian Hayes, Trey Murphy, Kyle Anderson, the McDaniels, Derrick White, Caleb Martin, Bagley, Konchar, Marcus Morris, Grayson Allen, Boucher, Thad, Bruce Brown, Payne, Zach Collins, Cole Anthony, Fultz...the list goes on. Not to mention I could stash Robert Williams.
I ended up dropping Vando and picking up Claxton. He's been on and off my team as well. Def sucks with FT%Next move would probably drop Milton for Tre Jones.
There are teams that would possibly take Randle in a trade and the only players on those teams I would want (that fit my build) are John Collins, Draymond, Mikal Bridges, Capela, and Butler. Do you think it's fair to offer Randle for Draymond or Collins straight up? Who would be a better target? Both teams have players on their teams who fit Randle's game (bad %s, high turnovers, little defense). For Bridges, Capela, and Butler most likely Randle would not be enough, but do you see anyone I can package with Randle that doesn't do what my team needs? I was thinking Maxey (his strength seems to be points and 3s but can hurt FG% at times).
I've added and dropped Tre Jones at least 5 times during the season. I'm the only manager that believes in him apparently, but I drop him because there are weeks when I'm playing teams loaded with PGs that I keep thinking I can't compete with in assists. Turns out having the NBA assist leader makes you pretty competitive in that category... I'm surprised how well my team is doing..I nearly 9-0 a team who has SGA, Jokic, and Davis. only lost assists by 4. Anyway, trying to keep this short, thanks for your help!
Hi @dballbball,
Here's my current team, 12t 9 cat h2h, daily changes, one IL+ spot. My team is:
Haliburton, Hart, Huerter, Bruce Brown, Jalen Smith, Porzingis, Sengun, KPJ, Herb Jones, Hayward, Milton, Vassell, Jrue Holiday, and Lillard (currently in IL).
Am punting turnovers and FG%.
I was wondering if you thought Smith, Brown or Hayward is a drop for a streaming spot. Can hold Hayward till the end of the week when Lillard is hopefully back and move him to my IL.
Would love any thoughts on improvements that I could make to take my team to the next level
Considering trading Mitchell + Portis for PG + Randle. PG’s manager is getting tired of the injury, but i need to shoulder no B2Bs from PG and potentially more missed games

12T 9CAT. I'm feeling a little top heavy at the moment, and am thinking about trading Harden since other than his high FT and Rebounding for a guard, doesn't really fit my strengths and was thinking about getting some depth back so I can move on from the streamers that have found a full time job on my team due to injuries.

@voman Hey pal! I hope you dropped Milton since making this post. It was one of my top recommendations in my latest "The Week Ahead" article ( https://sportsethos.com/articles/hoop-ball-fantasy-basketball-features/the-week-ahead-eight-ways-to-sunday/)
You may or may not know this about me, but I consider myself to be the most notable non-family member of the Bruce Brown Fan Club. It suffices to say that I drafted him in every league I could this year and I love having him in all sorts of different lineups. Others consider him a streamer, so while I consider him a standard league hold, I am prepared to concede that he is one of your more droppable players.
I'm firm on holding or trading Hayward. There's just too much per-game value there to simply cut him loose. His production hasn't been particularly impressive, but I don't like to recommend dropping someone that is almost guaranteed to be picked up immediately.
I like Smith too, so it's not important to me that I convince you to drop him. He started hot, became inconsistent, earned a bad wrap in fantasy, and is now dealing with it despite ranking within the top-75 over the last two weeks and top-150 for the season. You're also punting FG%, so it shouldn't make much difference that Smith has been hurting managers there and has been penalized in the rankings as a result.
Really, you could drop any of the players above and have them picked up immediately by another manager. My opinion is that you should probably be looking to make a 2-for-1 trade with a couple of these guys so you can create that extra roster spot you're looking for (assuming you still want to make a move). If there's a player on the market that you know can provide comparable value, then it's probably alright to sell any combination of the above at a bit of a discount. Otherwise, you'll have to be confident that you can stream enough production to make up your losses in the trade. I don't think it's a terrible idea to hold the guys you suggested. As noted above, it's Milton that should really go, and probably already has gone.
Your team looks strong in all guard stats but PTS, which is winnable, but probably only at full health and with streamers. It seems like you're probably going to see consistently good results in AST, FT%, STL and 3PT. This squad may be sneakily successful in BLK if you can stream in a specialist against the beatable teams. That category and REB will probably force you to consider keeping Smith, because you're going to need some extra help in both areas to win some matchups. There will be teams that are simply too strong for you in both areas, but you should definitely push for those categories if your opponent isn't too strong. No problems with the FG% and TO punt.
Focus on converting BLK or REB to a strength, if you can. One will typically help the other anyway, but you should probably get a boost in a fifth category. I like your potential in these areas more than in PTS due to the volatility of scoring through injuries, bad schedule weeks and efficiency impacts.
If possible, your trades should see you making a bit of a sacrifice in PTS to fill some holes in BLK or REB. Rather than recommending who to trade, I'll instead suggest that you protect Haliburton, Hart, Holiday, Porter and Porzingis. The balance of risk and reward probably won't work in your favor with deals centered around these players, but there's probably something to be gained in equal-value swaps with others on your roster. To give you an idea of what I mean: Lillard is ranked below all of these players on a per-game basis in my projections for your punt. By reputation, you and I know he's better than that, which makes him an ideal trade candidate. Other managers will be happy to take on an All-NBA veteran and will understand the need to give up some serious value in return.
Making decisions about who to trade from your team isn't so much a judgement of who's producing standard league value as it is an evaluation of who's producing that can then be used to get someone that is producing better or more relevant value. To extend another example: Vassell loses about 25 spots once I start adding weight to certain categories that will help your team. That's a wide margin of error to play with. I'm not recommending this specifically as a trade, but Buddy Hield jumps up from top-75 to top-40 under the same metrics. I think there's a lot of managers that would jump to make that trade and feel that they're taking advantage of you based on player reputations, but the math seems to suggest that it would be the opposite.
This team seems like it's more likely to see progress by trade instead of free agency. Going the free agency route means you're either dealing with injuries or dropping players that have standard league value. It's hard for me to say you should go with that without knowing what your wire looks like, but I'd only go that route in the playoffs or when dealing with three-plus injuries. Your whole team has ROS value, so you might as well let the recent results be your guide if you decide to make a tough drop. Anyone outside the top-100 can go, if needed.
Some streamers to consider: Caleb Martin, Chris Boucher, Cole Anthony, Isaiah Stewart, Ivica Zubac, Jalen McDaniels, Keegan Murray, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson, Larry Nance Jr., Markelle Fultz, Mo Bamba, Patrick Williams, Robert Covington, Santi Aldama, Tari Eason, Torrey Craig, Trey Murphy, Walker Kessler and Zach Collins.
Good luck!
Hey Derek, can you please have a look at my team and give me your feedback. I have made few changes and couple of trades since we last chatted. I am punting rebounds and turnovers with slight FG punt.
