thank you so much for helpful and informative answer!
Posted this last week. Just adding a more specific question.
My 8-team, 9-CAT league just submitted their 4-keepers today. Draft is this Sunday! I've listed them below in order of how they will draft (Straight, No snake). My team is #4 (BOLD).
Considering taking one of the following with my first round pick:
Beal, Bane, Rozier, VanVleet. Just not sure if Bane (my favorite pick here) would be there in round 2 if I grabbed Beal in the first round. Thoughts welcome.
1) Booker, Lillard, Siakim, Barnes
2) Morant, Edwards, Cunningham, Mobley
3) Doncic, James, A.Davis, Jokic
4) Durant, Sabonis, Embiid, D.Murray
5) Harden, Kyrie, SGA, LaMelo Ball
6) Steph Curry, Haliburton, Garland, KAT
7) Fox, Randle, Tatum, Vucevic
8) D.Mitchell, T.Young, Giannis, Adebayo
Bane will be there in and 2 for you I feel.
@lamjchop In order, my preference would be Ayton, Allen, Siakam, Turner and lastly Mobley
@moglieone In a vacuum I'd rank them in this order
Siakam, Bam, Vuc and Gobert.
@jonathan-lake my approach is always to pick the most valuable player during the draft. I do not reach based on position eligibility but my expertise is H2H.
@mohammad-farroukh It's very challenging to answer this kind of question when we don't know who the other options are out there on the board. Kawhi's injury risk makes him very tough to roster as your second best player in H2H but his per-game value could easily be first-round. In a vacuum, Kawhi at 22 makes sense to me but you might be passing on a more durable player who has close to his upside. Hope this helps
@stephen-vidovich thanks, but I'm trying to work out how do you account for statistical scarcity, or lack thereof in your team, during the draft? I get in h2h you can ignore cats you're not trying to build strength in. But are there targets in roto people might apply to be able to take sufficient assists in the first few rounds that they could ignore assists for the reminder of the draft.
Based on your reply about value, what tools are you using to assess the value? Are they based on the hoop ball projections? It's easy to say take the most valuable guy and less easy to always have a good idea of who that might be. Once you pass the top 17 there's no real consensus and it only gets more difficult the further into your draft. Last year I'd mocked together a z-score calculator but I'd be keen to know how the pros do it!
@stephen-vidovich Hey Stephen, so usually during my mocks, the 22nd to 30th picks end up between Vanvleet, Siakam, Kawahi, D. Mitchell, Butler, CP, Vuc and Beal, would you pick anyone else in that case ?
WHo do you like better, Khris or Mikal in a 9 cat H2H?
9 cats Roto game cap 12 teams..
im drafting 10th…
who is the player(s) this year I should reach for at early round (1-6)?
Last year I reached for Murray and he single handed won me a championship…
@moglieone Mikal likely wins the totals battle. Middleton likely wins the per-game battle, and if you're in good shape in TOs, I'd lean Middleton. If you need a low TO, high efficiency guy, Mikal. They fit nicely in a lot of team builds but you also need to assess what your club already has.
@lamjchop The B150 has a few in there. Interestingly, it might be Murray again. A little later Bane is a good one in there. I personally think Porzingis has a nice year but everyone's terrified of him (for good reason)
@jonathan-lake Here would be my best advice for a roto format.
I'd take a look at the B-150 as my base for rankings and then I would make personal adjustments as I see fit and be sure to be aware of how the site where I am drafting has their ranks as that can allow some value to slip past where it should. If you are really looking for big man stats after going assist heavy in the first couple of rounds, I would recommend to not go below a "tier" in value. That could be a range of 5 players in the early middle rounds and the tiers will continue to grow in numbers as the draft advances. I wouldn't reach for a big man outside of my "tier" in that 3rd round range and I'd go with that approach throughout the entire draft. Hope this helps a bit more than my initial response. It's ok to reach, but only within your designated tier.
@mohammad-farroukh I would choose between Siakam & Kawhi and would probably choose Kawhi for the per-game upside. I think you are on the right track with your decision-making there.
Hey everyone! I'm in a 10 team 9 cat roto league and drafting from the 9 slot. My leaguemates are very hesitant to take young players and I know that Anthony Edwards and Cade will likely be available for my third and fourth round picks (29 and 32 overall). Would it be a bad idea to take both? Downside I see is really hurting my chances in TO, FG% and FT%. WDYT?
