We want to hear from you!
Read Matt's article ( https://sportsethos.com/articles/hoop-ball-fantasy-basketball-features/fantasy-basketball-misery-loves-company-sunday-sob-stories-2/) and then tell us your best Sunday sob stories from ANY fantasy sport!
I'll start with one:
Mirza Teletovic, 2016. I needed something like 8 three pointers to win about 1000 dollars in a H2H league, and Mirza was my last add for finals week and a half. He hit 5 in his first game after I picked him up and still had 3 games left. I was golden! Next game he only hit 1 but I figured I only needed 2 more in 2 games, so I'm in great shape.
Next game, he got hurt 11 minutes in and hit zero.
Last game of the year was an overload day and I didn't get a chance to play all of my guys and lost by 1 three pointer. I'm still sick about it.
Mirza Teletovic cost me 800 dollars.
Mitchell Robinson is a free agent in my league… should I add for T.Bryant or Olynyk?
Keep Olynyk 100%. Bryant meh... good streamer when AD is gone and thats all. Mitch probably better but pretty much just a REB,BLK guy given his low FGA volume
Guy drafted Malcolm Brogdon 1 spot ahead of me(whom I really wanted). Weeks later, Brogdon gets released to waivers unbeknownst to me to which another guy (below me in waivers) claims him and beats me H2H in the same week!
This is for sob stories, folks. Not add/drop stuff.
Hahaha! I love this thread!
This is the story of my only playoff loss in a dynasty league that is my oldest league.
Fantasy playoffs 2021, first round, last day of the matchup, Moses Brown was at the peak of his career, and I needed 1 point to win the matchup, one!
RobCov and Moses Brown combined for 43 minutes, 0/4 from the floor, 0/0 from the ft% line, and the matchup ended up tied, and I lost on the tiebreaker. That was by far the most painful fantasy loss I've had.
@andmlemos Hahaha, absurd flops
Howdy all! I can see that our misery is in great company so far. On twitter I brought up a half sob story in which I traded for MPJ last season, only to have him shut down a week or so later. The rest of the tale is kind of silly series of events. I traded Wendell Carter Jr for MPJ. Porter was hurt but hadn't been designated for surgery yet. Of course right after the trade he was essentially ruled out for the season causing a sob and a half form yours truly. The bizarre note is that at that exact same time, Wendell was in the midst of a terrible stretch. So the manager who I had traded with dropped WCJ, I dropped MPJ, and picked Carter Jr back up! Then I went on to win the title!! So while we can can and most certainly should commiserate in our sob stories, there really is no telling how this crazy fantasy game we love can twist and turn.
Keep em coming folks!
@andmlemos and now Bob Cov and Moses are both on my Clippers!!!
2nd round matchup and I have Steph on my last day. So I need a 3 pointer to win my matchup so I was thinking this is easy (Steph is Steph, right?). And then Oh yeah! Curry, Bang! I won the 3s but there you go looking at the scoreboard curry also had 7 TOs hahah
I did won the 3 ptrs but lose with 1 Turnover. Who would have thought I'm winning TOs by a margin of 6 and he will give me 7 TOs way above his average 😀
@jsuezo it's so funny when you are laser focused on one particular category, all the while having another that was seemingly on lock slip away right from under your nose! Well "funny" is maybe not the right word. What's the word for smacking your palm into your forehead in frustration? Your pain is felt here, that is for certain.
I'm currently in the finals gunning for a back-to-back championship win in our 12T H2H fantasy league. A few hours ago I used up my last move to add Charles Bassey. After 8 minutes on the court, my sneaky addition was on the injury list. A perfect "Hide the pain Harold" meme. 🤦
I dropped Grayson Allen (out) for Charles Bassey (almost made it through a half, out) if you all want a similar laugh
