It’s our last Tuesday slate before the All-Star break, but boy is it a good one. With eight of the 14 teams on one end of a back-to-back, and a week off looming in the coming days, there’s going to be a lot to evaluate. Teams and players could head in either direction, whether it be to play through a minor injury before the rest week, or get an extended rest.
We’ll never know until the final injury report comes out, but we can take our most educated guesses before-hand. My eyes light up looking at this slate, as I think there are so many quality value and mid-tier price tag options. It seems like people are priced just below where they should normally be, and that is when we can pounce.
Player Tiers
Expensive Tier
Luka Doncic ($12,000) – The ‘Luka looks like a construction worker’ jokes were funny, but man have you seen him lately? He looks thin. And my oh my, is he playing like he’s back in tip-top shape. He’s dropped over 70 fantasy points in five of his last seven games, scoring 96 actual points in the past two (both against the Clippers). He’s on another level right now. Jimmy Butler is questionable for this one, but even if he plays, Luka really is the engine for this team, and his usage should remain sky high with Porzingis not walking through that tunnel again.
Anthony Edwards ($8,000) – In a game that is featuring a monstrous 244 point total, there are a lot of intriguing options, but none more than the Ant Man who’s been scorching lately. With at least 22 shot attempts in three straight, and what expects to be faster than a speeding-bullet paced game, Ant Man gives off the potential for 65-point upside without spending an arm and a leg.
Mid-Tier
Darius Garland ($7,400) – Garland has been in and out of the lineup lately, but he practiced in full on Monday and is expected to be a go in this matchup. His price tag hasn’t been this low since the early stages of December. In fact, he was over the $9K mark prior to his last January game and missed the next 10 days. This is a tag we should pounce on, with Trae Young’s defense being the icing on the cake.
Derrick White – ($5,600) – White produced another solid fantasy performance with his new team in his second outing, looking comfortable with his teammates and new role. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, he’s an integral piece to this team and has been in the closing lineup. The price is still low enough to attack, and he’s getting enough open looks to again bring back value. He’s a streaky shooter at best, but those looks will be there playing off Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Honorable Mentions – Evan Mobley ($6,500), Deandre Ayton ($6,600), Montrezl Harrell ($5,300)
Value
Terrance Mann ($4,600) – The matchup is a tough one, but Mann has assumed the role of secondary point guard and playmaker over the last 10 days or so and he’s really taken to it. Not only have his assists jumped up, but he’s been more active on the glass and is looking for his shot more, with three straight games of double-digit attempts. With Norman Powell set to miss extended time, and the potential for some of his teammates to rest on that back end of a back-to-back (and 3-in-4-nights before the All-Star break), things look to be in Mann’s favor despite the matchup. I also wrote this before Monday night’s second-half blowup, where he is squarely now on a lot of people’s radar.
Lance Stephenson ($4,000) – What a story Born Ready has been this year. From out of the league to a contributing piece on a somewhat competitive team. With Chris Duarte set to miss this game, Stephenson should draw the start in his place. He played 32 minutes in the previous game when Duarte left after just 4 minutes and took 16 shots and had 7 combined rebounds and assists. Stephenson has never been one to shy away from being aggressive, and if he’s going to get these type of minutes, he is well worth a look at such a cheap price tag. Keep an eye on Malcolm Brogdon’s status, but I personally don’t know why they wouldn’t just wait until after the break to insert him back in the lineup if he is or is close to ready.
Deep Honorable Mentions – Jalen Smith ($3,900), Davis Bertans ($3,400), Onyeka Okongwu ($3,400)
