Without trustworthy bench guard and 6MOY candidate Ty Jerome in the mix, the Cavaliers have thrusted Donovan Mitchell into a heavier workload recently. In the past four games without Ty, Mitchell is playing 34.4 mpg, an extra 3.2 mpg when compared to his season stats. We’re trying to take advantage of every nuance, even one as small as this one, specially when the All-NBA guard is playing excepcionally well – 55.8 fppg over his last four games while shooting 49/36/93 shooting splits. And his best game over that stretch was against the Spurs, with a 63 fpts performance. It makes sense, as the Spurs defense has been… not great. They have the 28th ranked defensive rating over the last 15 games and give up the most assists, 4th most threes and 8th most points to opposing SGs over the same time span, while also giving up the 4th most threes on the 5th best 3pt% and the 3rd best fg%. Mitchell’s recent uptick in minutes, excellent recent play and superb matchup while being on the game with the highest O/U of the slate make him one of the most enticing plays today!
