Blazers @ Hornets. Cavs @ 76ers. Pelicans @ Grizzlies. And that’s all there’s to it on today’s three game slate! The O/Us are, respectively, 220.5, 229 and 243, and there’s a lot to scrutinize in these three matchups. As always, this January slate is marked by injuries. Brandon Miller is out for the year, Deandre Ayton didn’t play yesterday and we’re yet to get an update, both Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond are out (prepare for another YABUUUSEEELEE masterclass from the Sixers announcers), Evan Mobley is out and Zion Williamson will also be watching from the sidelines. But between Tyrese Maxey and Paul George vs. Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, LaMelo Ball vs. the up-and-coming Scoot Henderson (please don’t look at last game’s box score) and the 29-15 Grizzlies vs. the Trey Murphy led Pelicans, there’s a lot of great basketball to be watched. Today, Point Guards reign supreme. Let’s go one by one. LaMelo Ball is questionable and his price-tag stands at a slate-leading $10,500. He’s facing the Blazers, who allow the 7th most points, 8th most assists and 3rd best fg% to opposing PGs. Tyrese Maxey’s price-tag stands at $10,000, number two in the slate, and he’s facing Darius Garland and the Cavs, who allow the most points, 4th most threes and 5th best fg% to opposing PGs, but on his only game against the Cavs this season he shot 38% from the field on route to 36.75 fpts. Then there’s the Ja Morant ($9,000) vs. Dejounte Murray ($8,400) matchup. The Pelicans allow the 6th most assists and 4th best fg% to opposing PGs, while Murray posted two 50+ fpts games and one 60+ fpts game in his last five. So many good options… And then there’s Darius Garland, $3,000 less expensive than LaMelo and $900 than Murray. The 76ers allow the best fg% to opposing PGs and in two games vs. the this season, Garland posted 25/5/4 and 25/5/6 stat lines, both better than Maxey’s only game vs. the Cavs. And he did it on 19/27 from the field! There’s a lot of great PG options for the slate, and four of them have great matchups (all but Dejounte Murray and Anfernee Simons), but Darius Garland $7,500 price-tag and great matchup makes him specially enticing today! Oh, and Donovan Mitchell‘s two game vs. the Sixers? 19/4/5 and 23/13/9. His price tag stands at $8,300 and he posted three 50+ fpts games over the past five. Without Evan Mobley, Donovan Mitchell is averaging 29/5.8/5 and Garland is at 24.8/7/3.4, both in five games. Playing the Cavs backcourt in today’s small slate can be a winning formula!
