• How’d We Get Here?

The Grizzlies landed Ja Morant in the draft but were still expected to struggle in a stacked Western Conference. The front office conducted one of the better stealth rebuilds in recent years, as they were able to nab both Morant and Brandon Clarke out of the draft while filling out the roster with savvy, low-cost acquisitions like De’Anthony Melton and Tyus Jones. Morant led a young and feisty Grizzlies squad to the playoff race, though they would eventually miss the postseason after losing to Portland in the NBA’s first-ever play-in game. Still, it was a very promising campaign with Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., Jonas Valanciunas, Dillon Brooks and Clarke forming a great young nucleus. The future looks bright and Memphis looks to be ahead of the conventional pace.
