The Raptors are waiving Anthony Bennett and signing Jason Thompson according to the Vertical.

The move makes sense for the Raptors as Thompson will provide a level of defense the Raptors don’t really have in terms of muscle down low.  If Thompson can focus on staying in his lane on the defensive side, trying not to make the big play but rather the smart play, then he can be a nice acquisition for the Raptors.  Offensively, he will need to work the offensive glass and hit the occasional 16-foot jumper, otherwise staying out of the way.  The waiving of Bennett is just the most recent blow to the former overall No. 1 pick’s career, which may be on life support.
