• David Lee was set to make a paltry $1.6 million next season with the Spurs and as such has decided to decline his player option and test the market, per the San Antonio Express-News’ Tim Osborn.

Lee should be able to make more than that in free agency after he performed pretty well in San Antonio. His defense will always be an issue, especially as he gets older, but a team will have space for a backup big man who can score and rebound in limited minutes. Despite that being the most likely outcome, there’s a few ways Lee could play this. If he really wants to help the Spurs chase a title, he could take less money annually over multiple years to return a la Pau Gasol to help the team create cap space in case they pursue any major free agents.
