• Deron Williams says he will opt out of his contract with the Mavs for next season.

Williams was scheduled to make $5.6 million next season, so he is probably looking for one last multi-year contract. Williams’ first season with the Mavs was a slight improvement over his 2014-15 season with the Nets, but his days of being a premiere fantasy PG are over. Williams can no longer be relied upon to stay healthy throughout an entire season, and this season was no different as it ended due to a sports hernia. Subsequently, Williams has played over 69 games only twice in the past eight seasons. Yet, the Dallas native is hoping that the pending rise in the NBA’s salary cap can help him cash in one last time.
