• Dejounte Murray
    PG, San Antonio Spurs

Despite a looming deadline for 2016 first-round picks to sign contract extensions, the Spurs’ Dejounte Murray and Jakob Poeltl say they aren’t worried about their futures.

The deadline is on October 21st, two days before the season opener and if Murray and Poeltl don’t sign extensions, they will enter the restricted free agent market in July 2020. Murray’s future value is largely based on potential, but the torn ACL that forced him to miss all of last season placed his future in doubt. The young point guard, who is represented by Rich Paul, is poised to recapture the form that earned him NBA All-Defense Second Team honors in 2017-18, when he became the only player in the league that season under 6’6” to record at least 400 rebounds, 90 steals and 30 blocks. Poeltl meanwhile is set to earn $3.75 million this season and his inability to stretch the floor in an age when big men routinely play on the perimeter put him in line at this point to receive a team-friendly deal.
