Bobby Portis was monstrous in the Bulls’ Game 1 victory on Sunday, scoring 19 points with nine boards, three assists and two blocks in 29 minutes off the bench.
Portis keyed a big second quarter run to give the Bulls an early lead and came up big down the stretch with key buckets and a massive block at the rim in the fourth. He shot 8-of-10 from the field and was even 3-of-4 from deep in this one. He was given plenty of cushion to rise and fire and made Boston pay in a big way. He was a team-high plus-12 in this one and has earned a sizable role in this series. His athleticism presents problems for the C’s frontcourt and his shooting (if it holds up) will draw people out of the paint, an area that Chicago will already dominate with ease. This may have been the best game of Portis’ young career.
