• There is reportedly a “growing consensus” that the Kings would pass on Luka Doncic at No. 2 in favor of an American frontcourt player, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

    From ESPN:

“The growing consensus among NBA decision-makers in attendance at Stark Arena in Belgrade is that the teams drafting behind the Phoenix Suns at No. 1, the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks are likely to pass on European prodigy in favor of American frontcourt players. The question remains whether a team will trade up into the top three to snag Doncic, or if he will fall to the No. 4 (Memphis) or even the No. 5 pick (Dallas) after being heavily scouted in the Euroleague playoffs against Panathinaikos and mostly struggling.”

Draft season often leads to a lot of smoke screens and it’s possible that this is one of them. The Kings will likely do their due diligence on all potential options with the second overall pick.

Doncic is fresh off winning a Euroleague title with Real Madrid and also took home the Euroleague MVP and Euroleague Final Four MVP awards in the process. He’ll likely take some time before deciding on his next move:

“I will tell about all at the right time. Right now I just want to celebrate with my team. Soon I will tell,” said Doncic on potentially moving to the NBA.

The draft isn’t until June 21, so expect a lot of smoke screens in between. Draft season is only starting to heat up.
