After a tough loss to the Hawks in Atlanta, the Sacramento Kings will travel to Miami for a Tuesday night matchup against the Heat. This is the team’s third game in four nights, and is their second pair of back-to-back games just five games into the new season.
Between the lack of rest and the cross-country road trip, this should prove to be another tough game for Sacramento. Â The team has found a way to keep the energy up throughout this tough opening stretch, and it will be important to maintain that for the Kings to leave Miami with a win.
Here are some things to watch for during the game:
- DeMarcus Cousins struggled Monday night in Atlanta, scoring just 14 points on 16 shots. Â Cousins usually gets to the free throw line at an elite rate, but only took three shots from the charity stripe against a Hawks team that has proven to be very good defensively. Â Cousins appears headed for an even tougher matchup tonight against Hassan Whiteside, so he will need to find a way to be more productive to put the team in a good position to win.
- Rudy Gay stepped up with Cousins struggling Monday night, scoring 22 points and notching five assists on just 13 shots. Â Gay has looked much improved this season, and currently sits as the second best player on the roster behind Cousins. Â The Kings will need him to have another big night tonight.
- Sacramento struggled to take care of the ball in their last game, committing 19 turnovers as a team. Â Sacramento struggled with turnovers last season, so they will want to keep an eye on this going forward.
The Miami Heat appear to be going through a rebuilding phase as a franchise, and have started the season slowly at 1-2.
They still have quite a bit of talent on their roster, so this shouldn’t be considered an easy win by any means. Â With that said, these are the matchups that the team will need to win with regularity if they expect to compete for a playoff spot.
