• The Sacramento Kings got great performances once again from Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins but were unable to capitalize on their success, ultimately dropping their third game of this road trip 102-94 to the Orlando Magic.

The Kings got off to a hot start leading by six after the first quarter, but were unable to outscore the Magic in any quarter after that.  This loss drops the Kings record to 2-4 on the season, so Sacramento will need to turn things around before they dig too big of a hole for themselves to start the season.

Here are some notes from the game:

    • Willie Cauley-Stein is typically known to be a very good defender, but some of his weaknesses on that end are starting to get exploited.  He has struggled to this point guarding the three point line, and has been a non-factor on the boards.  In five games this season, Cauley-Stein has managed just two defense rebounds.  The Kings will need him to be much better than that to justify giving him major minutes.
    • Omri Casspi played his biggest role yet for the team on Thursday night, getting 24 minutes of action and scoring 12 points.  Casspi should be a great addition to a bench unit that has struggled to score early in the season, given his ability to score at the rim and the three point line.
    • Ben McLemore bounced back well after a tough game against the Miami Heat, Scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds.  With Afflalo continuing to struggle, McLemore has slowly begun to carve out a fairly large role for the team.

Sacramento has struggled on the current road trip, and with the only remaining games taking place in Milwaukee and Toronto, the trip isn’t getting any easier.  The Kings will need to find a way to turn things around quickly if they plan to keep up in a tough Western Conference.
