Shabazz Muhammad has requested an exit from the Wolves according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Muhammad has privately made it clear to the Wolves’ front office that he would like to be traded or waived from the team ahead of next week’s trade deadline after not seeing the court as much as he anticipated this season.
He’s playing just 9.6 minutes per game in 31 games on the season, with 24 DNP-CDs. He fell out of the rotation in late November and head coach Tom Thibodeau hasn’t looked back. He’s played 298 total minutes on the season, with just 51 of those coming since December 1.
According to the report, Muhammad re-signed with the hope of significant minutes off the bench. With no proven options at the wing except for Butler and Wiggins, it was a fair gamble for Muhammad that didn’t pay off. Now he’s looking to reestablish value elsewhere.
Muhammad signed a one-year deal with a player option for $1.9 million next season.
Shabazz Muhammad would lose his bird rights if traded based on the 1 year bird restriction. The acquiring team would have to sign him with cap space or one of their exceptions as a FA this summer.
