• Welcome to the Week Ahead where we’ll tell you everything you need to know in preparation for the new NBA week.

As Week Four approaches, some superstars remain hampered by injury, some players deserve your attention and some team’s schedules limit their potential this week. Let’s take a look:

    Games Played Breakdown

Four Games: Celtics, Heat, Nets, Pacers, Suns, Thunder

Three Games: Bucks, Bulls, Cavs, Clippers, Hawks, Jazz, Kings, Knicks, Lakers, Magic, Mavericks, Nuggets, Pelicans, Pistons, Raptors, Rockets, Sixers, Spurs, Warriors, Wizards

Two Games: Blazers, Grizzlies, Hornets, Wolves

At any given point in the season, you’re looking for any advantage you can get. This early on, it can be tough to decipher what’s real and what’s not among NBA teams that are just now figuring themselves out. Are the Cavs always going to be this bad? Can you rely on the Magic? Has Andre Drummond fixed his free throw woes for real? It’s hard to answer questions like that with a small sample size and things in the NBA change on a dime.

The one advantage you can always count on is volume. Sure, it could hurt your percentage categories but having more matchups in a given week than your opponent is a huge leg up. This week offers some interesting scenarios as six teams play a four game schedule while four other teams play only twice.

Of the teams taking the floor four times this week, the team to watch is the Suns. They play at such a breakneck pace and are currently averaging 106.1 points per game. Plus, they’re third in the league in possessions per game which gives them and their opponents a ton of opportunities for points, assists, 3s and rebounds. Beyond that, since Jay Triano took over head coaching duties three games into the season, the defense has been better and are guys actually collecting defensive stats. The Suns have four home games this week and three of them are against teams that have been more than generous to their opponents defensively this season (Nets, Magic, Wolves).

For those of you with a streaming spot on your roster, tonight might be the perfect night to pick someone up. It’s just a three game slate and four of the six teams playing tonight have four games this week so you could keep this player for the entire week and reap the benefits. As mentioned, the Suns are a great option this week but the Nets, Heat and Celtics also all have games tonight and play four times this week.

    Wire Watch

    Bojan Bogdanovic, SF, Indiana Pacers

The Pacers have been surprisingly decent this season and sit at 5-5 on the year. One of the reasons is the emergence of Bojan as a reliable scorer. He’s got at least 15 points in five of the team’s last seven contests and he’s got at least two 3s in each of his last five games. Again, the Pacers are one of six teams that play four games this week so if you’re looking for an edge in scoring and 3s made, Bogdanovic can surely help out this week.

Luc Mbah a Moute, SF, Houston Rockets

Breaking News: The Rockets like to shoot. Okay, fine, that’s no surprise but the shooting bug is contagious in Houston as Mbah a Moute is taking three 3-pointers per game this season after shooting less than one per game in his career and doubling what he shot last season with the Clippers. Yes, he suffered a bruised knee after just 14 minutes against the Jazz last night. But consider this: The Rockets don’t play again until Thursday night against the Cavs so there’s plenty of time for him to rest up. The Rockets also have a Saturday-Sunday back-to-back to end the week so you could capitalize on this pickup to close the week out. Mbah a Moute has at least two steals in his last four games and is shooting 6-of-13 from beyond the arc in that time.

Rajon Rondo, PG, New Orleans Pelicans

Asking you to stash someone is not something we would normally do. But if you have a streaming spot or if you’re in a league that has IR spots, grabbing Rondo could be a very smart move that pays off big time. His return is lingering and currently rumored to be November 17th. This is a team that has no real point guard right now. Sure Jrue Holiday is listed as the starting point guard but Jrue is a natural shooting guard. With Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins in the middle and both big men absolutely annihilating this season as it is, there are a ton of assist opportunities. Just a reminder: In Rondo’s one season with the Kings playing alongside Cousins, he led the league in assists.

    Injury Report

He’s not injured but the Eric Bledsoe situation has a lot of people’s attention. He will return to the team facilities this week to work with staff members but will not return to the team. One has to wonder though, as the find-a-Bledsoe-trade process slogs along, is this the first step to reconciliation if the Suns can’t find something soon?

Kawhi Leonard‘s (quadriceps) season debut remains a question mark. Nothing new has come out about his status in sometime so he shouldn’t be expected back this week.

John Wall (shoulder) is listed as day-to-day to return to the Wizards. He sat out Sunday’s win over the Raptors.

Danilo Gallinari (hip) left the Clippers’ game against the Heat on Sunday and did not return. It’s only listed as a bruise so he could very well play when the Clippers take the floor on Tuesday night against the Spurs. This will be a situation to follow on Tuesday.

Similarly, as mentioned earlier, Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) left Sunday’s game against the Jazz with a bruise. The Rockets next play on Thursday night and while he’ll be evaluated before that, it shouldn’t be expected that he’ll miss any time.

The Orlando Magic’s point guard situation should shore up this week as both Elfrid Payton (hamstring) and D.J. Augustin (hamstring) are expected to return. Payton has missed the last two weeks but could suit up when the Magic play the Knicks on Wednesday night. Augustin’s return could potentially come later in the week.

Dion Waiters‘ (personal) status is up in the air for the Heat’s game against the Warriors on Monday night. Waiters missed Sunday’s game against the Clippers to celebrate the birth of his daughter. It’s likely he doesn’t make the road trip to Oakland on Monday but should return to the team this week.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (personal) is out again for the Hornets. Head coach Steve Clifford says he’s day-to-day with this personal matter.

Nets big men Trevor Booker (back) and Quincy Acy (groin) could both return to the Nets lineup on Monday night when they play against the Suns. Another Nets big Jarrett Allen (foot) is expected back this week.

Ersan Ilyasova (knee) and Mike Muscala (ankle) are both out for the Hawks on Monday night. Both are expected to return later in the week.
