It’s another Monday in the National Basketball Association and we’re now about a quarter of the way through the regular season.
Now is the time for make or break moves with regards to waiver decisions or holding guys you drafted that have suffered from a slow start. Hoop Ball is here to help! Let’s dive into the Week Ahead:
Games Played Breakdown
Four Games: Cavs, Clippers, Heat, Kings, Lakers, Magic, Pistons, Sixers, Spurs, Warriors, Wolves
Three Games: Blazers, Bucks, Bulls, Celtics, Grizzlies, Jazz, Knicks, Mavericks, Nets, Nuggets, Pacers, Pelicans, Rockets, Suns, Thunder, Wizards
Two Games: Hawks, Hornets, Raptors
This could be a banner week for streaming Warriors players. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant will miss the Warriors’ home game versus the Kings on Monday night so the whole bench could see plenty of time. This is a great schedule week for the Warriors as they’re one of 11 teams with four games this week and get served up the aforementioned Kings along with the Lakers and Magic this week. They’ve got the schedule to spotlight this week and the more their stars rest, the more the love will be spread around. Keep an eye on available Warriors on your waiver wire this week if you’re looking for a one or two-game boost.
Obviously owners of players on the Hawks, Hornets and Raptors take a hit this week as those three teams all have two-game schedules for Week 7. But it’s actually one of the three-game teams that could have the worst fantasy schedule on the docket.
The Memphis Grizzlies without Mike Conley has turned into a bit of a fantasy wasteland. Beyond that though, in their three games this week, two of them come against the San Antonio Spurs and the other comes against the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers. The Spurs are fourth in defensive efficiency and could give the struggling Grizzlies fits. While the Cavs rank 29th in the league in that statistic, that number is skewed because of the horrendous start the Cavs suffered from. Over their last three games, the Cavs actually rank 12th in the NBA in defensive efficiency. The Grizzlies are averaging just 89.8 points per game over their last five games and could be looking at a rough Week 7.
Wire Watch
Norman Powell, SG, Raptors
In three games since returning from injury, Powell is shooting 52 percent and knocked down seven 3-pointers in the process. As long as he’s healthy, Powell will be good for approximately 30 minutes per game. His 3s are nearly doubled from last season as are his steals. As mentioned before, it’s a light week for the Raptors which actually might be the perfect time to strike. If nobody is looking to stream Powell this week, jump on him now because he will be worth keeping for the rest of the season.
JaMychal Green, PF, Grizzlies
While fully recognizing the irony in calling the Grizzlies current team a fantasy wasteland and then turning around and saying, “Add JaMychal Green,” it’s all fully necessary. Memphis is struggling but with Green back, he’s worthy of your attention. Marc Gasol can’t do everything on his own and the Grizz can rely on Green to bring solid scoring and rebounding. He’s got around 30 minutes in each of their last four and while he won’t maintain his 63 percent from the field, Green will come in handy in your league for the long haul.
Allen Crabbe, SG, Nets
Crabbe sat out the Nets’ game on Sunday with a back injury and is expected to miss tonight’s game against the Rockets which is fine because he isn’t in streamer status anyway. Crabbe’s fantastic 3-point specialist season a year ago is hard to replicate as evidenced by the fact that all of Crabbe’s percentages are down. But on the Nets, he has unlimited opportunities and his volume is making up for the slight dip in efficiency. Crabbe is launching more than six 3s per game and hit 19 3s in his last five games. The former California Golden Bear is delivering 10th round value right now.
Injury Report
The Warriors injury report is looking quite comprehensive these days featuring Stephen Curry (hand), Kevin Durant (ankle), Draymond Green (foot) and Andre Iguodala (knee). Curry and Durant will miss Monday night’s game and Iggy is doubtful. This is all rest related and nothing considered serious.
Tony Parker (quadriceps) will make his season debut for the Spurs tonight against the Mavericks.
Speaking of Parker, he shed some light on Kawhi Leonard’s status, saying Leonard is two or three weeks away but that Kawhi looks good in the practices they’ve had together.
John Wall (knee) has been ruled out for the next two weeks.
Ben Simmons (elbow) is expected to return to the Sixers tonight against the Cavs.
Kristaps Porzingis (back) is hopeful to return to the Knicks on Monday night against the Blazers after missing Saturday’s game. Enes Kanter (back) is questionable.
Kemba Walker (shoulder) is listed as questionable for when the Hornets return to the floor on Wednesday.
Victor Oladipo (knee) is listed as a game-time decision for Monday night’s game against the Magic.
DeMar DeRozan (knee) was held out of practice on Monday. This is a situation to watch and will be benefitted by the Raptors’ light schedule this week.
Devin Booker (toe) missed the Suns’ last contest but is hopeful to return to the court for their game Tuesday night.
Tristan Thompson (calf) could return by the end of this week after missing almost a month of action.
Nikola Mirotic (face) could make his season debut for the Bulls on Thursday who is expected to at least be traveling with the team.
Jeff Teague (achilles) is listed as day-to-day.
Allen Crabbe (back) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (ankle) are both out for the Nets’ meeting with the Rockets on Monday night.
Chandler Parsons (knee) has until Wednesday to rest up for the Grizzlies’ next game. He’s considered day-to-day.
Al-Farouq Aminu (ankle) will not return to the Blazers tonight but could very well make his return this week.
