As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s nice to realize how much NBA fans have to be thankful for.
The best all-around rookie class we’ve seen in years. Perhaps the most loaded crop of talent the entire NBA has had in 25 years. Teams thought to be irrelevant in preseason pushing the pace and making us fantasy maniacs happy. Boogie’s stat lines, the Beard’s brilliance, Steph’s heat checks, Embiid’s dream shakes and Twitter game – it’s a joyous time to be an NBA fan.
Let’s see if you’ll be thankful for your fantasy team this week. Here’s the Week Ahead:
Games Played Breakdown
Four Games: Blazers, Bulls, Celtics, Grizzlies, Hawks, Hornets, Knicks, Magic, Pelicans, Thunder, Wolves
Three Games: Bucks, Cavs, Clippers, Heat, Jazz, Kings, Mavericks, Nets, Nuggets, Pacers, Raptors, Sixers, Spurs, Suns, Warriors, Wizards
Two Games: Lakers, Pistons, Rockets
Because of Thanksgiving, we’ve got quite a wacky week of scheduling. As usual, there will be no games on Thursday which means nearly the entire league will be in action on Wednesday with a 14-game slate.
Owners of players on the Lakers, Pistons and Rockets suffer from a light week thanks to the weird schedule. So, if you rely on James Harden in multiple categories, you’re going to need some streaming help in his absence this week. Of course, despite the two game schedule, the Rockets still tout the best offense in the NBA so they should still provide stats galore.
The Pistons on the other hand might suffer from the schedule the most this week. Their two games are a home game against the Cavs on Monday night, the second night of a back-to-back after defeating the Wolves in Minnesota on Sunday. The second game comes Friday against the Thunder who sport the third best defensive rating in the NBA at 98.6. Beyond Andre Drummond’s always elite rebounding, there’s not much you can sincerely count on from the Pistons this week.
Speaking of the Thunder, they could very well have the best schedule of the week. They play four games this week – one against a Pelicans team who could be without Anthony Davis, one against the always electrifying Warriors which is likely to be a shootout and one against a Mavericks team that the Thunder already put 112 points on a little over a week ago. The Thunder’s offense could be in for a big week. That especially includes Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook, who isn’t yet having the historic season that he had a year ago, tends to hold grudges. Not sure if you’re aware but there’s a certain guy on the Warriors that Westbrook wants to steal the show against. The same can be said for his matchup with Reggie Jackson of the Pistons and the defending MVP always loves beating up on Mark Cuban’s Mavericks. As always, start Westbrook with extreme confidence.
While the team isn’t good and the schedule isn’t necessarily appetizing, the Bulls do have a timely schedule this week for streaming possibilities. Not only are they one of 11 teams to play four games this week but they’re also in the only game played on Tuesday, traveling to Los Angeles to play the Lakers. They’re also part of a three-game slate on Sunday, playing the Heat. For sheer volume and the potential of getting a leg up on your opponent by playing guys when they’ve got nobody, check out the available Bulls on your waiver wire.
Wire Watch
Kris Dunn, PG, Bulls
Here is a Bull that is likely available in your league that you should keep an eye on. Dunn is coming off his best two-game stretch as a pro as he put up 22-5-7 against the Hornets on Friday and 17-6-6 against the Suns on Sunday. The real story with Dunn right now is on the defensive end. Dunn has played 10 games this season and has managed at least three steals in half of those games. He’s averaging over two steals per game. With four games this week, Dunn will look to add to that. Now could be the time to pickup this Bulls point guard.
Spencer Dinwiddie, PG, Nets
It was talked about last week. Consider this a victory lap. Last week, in three games, Dinwiddie averaged 19 points, nine assists and three 3s per game. The Nets offense is leading the league in possessions per game and D’Angelo Russell is sidelined until January with a knee injury. Don’t wait any longer. Add Dinwiddie right now.
Danny Green, SG, Spurs
Two players in the NBA have at least 1.9 3s per game, 1.3 steals per game and 1.0 blocks per game. The first is DeMarcus Cousins, a top ten fantasy player as of this writing. The other is Danny Green. In Kawhi Leonard’s absence, San Antonio isn’t exactly a fantasy basketball haven. But Green has been a big help this season and really stands out in those categories. He’s producing 7th round value and should be owned.
Injury Report
Kevin Durant (ankle) missed last night’s game against the Nets and is questionable for the Warriors’ next game in KD’s old home, Oklahoma City.
Despite leaving Friday night’s game against the Nuggets with what was thought to be a concussion, Anthony Davis (orbital bone) will play tonight against the Thunder.
John Wall (knee) is listed as a game-time decision for tonight’s game against the Bucks.
Patrick Beverley (knee) is expected to make his return to the Clippers lineup Monday night against the Knicks.
As for the other Clippers, there’s still no solid timetable on the return of Danilo Gallinari (hip) or Milos Teodosic (foot). Gallinari is however listed as day-to-day.
Speaking of tonight’s Clippers-Knicks matchup, Tim Hardaway Jr. (foot) is listed as questionable for the game.
Paul Millsap (wrist) is out for tonight’s game against the Kings. Millsap’s status moving forward is uncertain.
Buddy Hield (ankle) is also out for tonight’s Kings-Nuggets game and could potentially miss more games this week.
Trevor Booker (ankle) is listed as day-to-day and could miss some games for the Nets this week.
Norman Powell (hip) has been out of action for the Raptors for the last week and is questionable to return this week.
Tyreke Evans (shoulder) is questionable for tonight’s Grizzlies-Blazers contest. The Grizz need all they can from their active guys with Mike Conley (Achilles) out indefinitely.
Al-Farouq Aminu (ankle) is expected to return to the Blazers this week but it won’t be tonight.
